Welcome to the memorial page for

Mary Keena Spence

January 23, 2017

Mary Keena Drummond Spence of Milford, Delaware was born on May 21, 1962 and went home to be with the Lord on January 23, 2017.  Known to her family as “Muffin”, Keena was 54 years old and she is the seventh and youngest child born to Stanford and Delores Drummond.  She is the devoted wife of the late Wayne E. Spence Sr., mother of Wayne E. Spence Jr.   Keena is a graduate of Milford Senior High School and she was employed for 16 years at Milford Memorial Hospital as a Radiology Technician.  She was baptized as a child at Bethel African Methodist Episcopal (A.M.E.) Church in Milford, Delaware and later joined Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church under the leadership of Rev. Ellsworth Coleman.

As a member of Mt. Zion, Keena was a Junior Usher and member of the YPD Sunbeams. Keena found tremendous pleasure in serving the Lord as a member of the Women’s Missionary Society, the Young People’s Department (YPD) and the Lay Organization.  At the time of her death, Keena was a Delaware Conference officer and served as Assistant Recording Secretary of the Delaware Women’s Missionary Society and Secretary for the Delaware Lay Organization.  At Mt. Zion, Keena served as the Women’s Missionary President, the Lay President, YPD Director and as a member of the Host and Hostess Committee.  She enjoyed travelling with the Missionaries and served as a driver for several Delaware Conference Officers.  It was rare that Keena did not also serve as a Hostess for Conference Missionary and Lay activities.

Keena will be remembered for her infectious smile, the always coiffed hair which she pushed back out of her face with the back of her hand; her witty sense of humor, her manicures, sometimes mood polished and sometimes decorated for the holidays. Keena had the family “swagger” down pat – always with the pinky finger extended - and the infamous way she and her sisters hoot “Lawd!”   In May, 2016, she and her beloved husband Wayne joined hands to renew their vows in celebration of 27 years of marriage. Of course, the essence of her joy was in her baby boy, “Waynie”.  A smiling glow always came over her face whenever she talked about her son, “Waynie”.

Known to her family as “Muffin”, Keena is preceded in death by her husband, Wayne E. Spence, Sr. and her brother, Stanford R. Drummond, and leaves to cherish her memory, her son, Wayne E. Spence Jr.(Loving friend, Destiny Drummond),  three stepchildren:  Timothy C. (Jacqueline) Spence, Jermell Dewayne and Victoria Renee; eight grandchildren who were the joy of her life; five sisters:  Tonecia (Larry) McMillan of Oxon Hill, Maryland; Charlatta (Carlton, Sr.) of Pocomoke City, Maryland; Joanne Beatty of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Janet (Dennis) Thomas of Windsor Mill, Maryland; and Kim Williams of Ellendale, Delaware,  29 nieces and nephews, and  her beloved pit bull, Blue and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and  friends.
