Harvey Leslie Johnson

October 10, 1950 ~ August 19, 2016 (age 65) 65 Years Old

Mr. Harvey Leslie Johnson died peacefully at Bayhealth Kent General on August 19th in Dover, DE, at the age of 65. Harvey is survived by his children, Greg, Mark, Ryan and Sarah Smith; seven grandchildren; and siblings, Joan Napolitano and Linda Carter.

Harvey was born on October 10, 1950, in Union City, PA, to Harvey and Pauline Johnson (née Sartin). He graduated from Smyrna High School in 1968; earned a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Delaware, and a Master's Degree from Wilmington College. Harvey worked at Caesar Rodney Junior High as a Social Studies teacher for most of his career.  He coached boys basketball for many years and served as the Athletic Director at the Junior High School before becoming an administrator for the district and retiring in 2003. His children remember him as a kind father, who encouraged them to pursue their highest educational and career aspirations.

Harvey had an open heart and relished opportunities to include others in his life. He was known for his wit and generosity. He loved crabbing and exploring Chesapeake Bay tributaries. On these outings, his joyful laugh was the purest expression of his appreciation for nature and his family and friends. Harvey’s children and grandchildren meant the world to him. He was a passionate Baltimore sports fan and music lover as well.

A memorial service is scheduled for 3:00 PM Saturday, August 27th, at Pippin’s Funeral Home in Wyoming, DE, with a reception to follow at Wyoming Tavern. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a contribution to the American Heart Association. All are invited to attend and celebrate Harvey's life.
