Welcome to the memorial page for

Lois Joan Leon

March 2, 1938 ~ January 7, 2017 (age 78) 78 Years Old

Lois Joan (Sapp) León went Home to be with her Lord on Saturday, January 7, 2017. During her final hours, she was lovingly surrounded by her two children and their spouses. Joan, daughter of the late William L. and Violet R. Sapp, was born in 1938 in New Brunswick, NJ. Raised in Cranbury, NJ, Joan graduated from New Brunswick High School, in 1956, where she was a proud member of the glee club. She went on to eventually work at American Airlines in the Reservations Department, worked direct sales for a number of companies, and served as a tech in Walmart pharmacy. It was during her time at American Airlines that she married SSG Ernesto A. León, USAF, Ret. Together they have two children, Douglas and MaryJoan. She was a resident of Manhattan, NY, Killeen, TX, Piscataway, NJ, and Smyrna, DE, respectively, where she settled with her children to care for her aging parents. Her greatest joys and accomplishments were raising her children and loving her Lord. Joan trusted Jesus Christ as her Saviour in January of 1974.  In every church she attended, she was active in music, missions and children’s ministries.  She would frequently lend her talents as an artist to create displays for various church events, including murals for children to color and signs for Vacation Bible School. She enjoyed passing on her love of art to children in church and made it a part of piquing their interests in learning from God’s Word. Appreciating all of God’s creatures great and small, she possessed a knack for finding the beauty in everything and everyone around her and helping others to see it too. Throughout her long battle with cancer, her primary goal and focus was having a pleasing Christian testimony that would bring honor to God.

Joan León is preceded in death by her parents, William L. Sapp Sr. and Violet R. Sapp, and older brother, William L. Sapp Jr. She leaves behind her son Douglas W. León with wife, Adina, and grandchildren, Joshua, Micah, Noah, and Abigail: her daughter MaryJoan Cowan with husband, Nolen, and their children, Jayda, Julia, Jenna, Jazlyn, Jiliana, Jordyn, and Jeremiah: her nephew Keith N. Sapp with wife Martha and great nephews Tyler and Dylan: her niece Karen J. Sapp and great niece, Alison Kelly with husband Don and great-great nephew Waylon: and her nephew William L. Sapp III and great niece, Kaela Moriarty.
