Robert William Bauer

June 23, 1923 ~ April 19, 2017 (age 93) 93 Years Old


     Robert William Bauer (Bob) passed away on April 19, 2017 at Tiffany’s Adult Home, following a brief stay.

     Bob was born June 23, 1923 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Nicholas and Erma Lawrence Bauer.  In addition to his parents, Bob is predeceased by his sister, Frances Hendricks; four brothers: Lawrence, Richard, Philip and Paul; his grandson Nathan Young, and his nephews David Hendricks and David Twilley.

     Bob served in the U.S. Army in the European Theatre during World War II.  He majored in art before earning a doctorate in psychology, and began his career as a clinician in the Sheridan, Wyoming VA Hospital and in Evansville State Hospital, Indiana.  Next Bob taught at Virginia State, and then began a lengthy career as a research psychologist for the U.S. Army.

     Ever eager to learn, along the way, Bob tried to conquer Spanish and mathematics, and he majored in music at the University of Texas, Austin, accumulating many credit hours of piano and marimba.  For many years, he was the family fitness guru, instructing all in yoga poses and the benefits of exercise.

     A conservationist, birder, hiker, and camper, Bob belonged to the Audobon Society, Sierra Club, and Nature Conservancy.  Ever willing to help others and interested in most everything, Bob volunteered for many tasks ranging from trail building in Kentucky to grant writing for a Texas library.

     Bob is mourned by Jean, his wife of 46 years; daughter, Robin Young; sons Nicholas, Christopher and Daniel; and daughter-in-law, Amy; grandson Sean Cook and wife Marie, and granddaughter Deanna Bauer.  He is also survived by a myriad of nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews in Arizona, Delaware, Oregon and Texas.

     A funeral service will be 3:00 P.M. Friday, April 28, 2017 at the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden Wyoming Avenue, Wyoming, DE 19934 where there will be a viewing from 2:00 to 3:00 P.M. Friday.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963 or to the Camden Wyoming EMS, 200 E.
