Edward J. Brakowski of Magnolia, Delaware went home to be with the Lord on February 2, 2016.  He was 72 years old.  Edward was born on October 2, 1943, in New York City, New York to the late Adam and Martha Brakowski.  He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Annette.

After graduating from high school, Edward enlisted in the United States Air Force, beginning his career as a Weather Observer.  He was stationed in England where he met and married his love, Sonia, at the age of 22.  After 4 years of dedicated service and several overseas duty assignments, they moved back to the United States, and settled in New Jersey.  Ed attended Rutgers University, graduating with his Bachelors Degree in Business, and later an Honorary Masters Degree.  He was employed as an Assistant General Manager for Panasonic, remaining with the company until retirement.  He then took on a secondary career at Weichert Realty, hanging up his keys after 8 years.

Ed enjoyed golf, sailing, radio controlled cars, bocce ball, and many other activities.  Most impressive was his desire to start running at the age of 50.  He ran not only for pure enjoyment, but to raise money for charities close to his heart.  He completed 6 marathons, including the New York City Marathon, Marine Corp Marathon, and pre-qualifying for Boston.  Altogether, he logged over 28, 000 miles, which is further in distance than the complete circumference of the earth.

Ed, better known as “Dear”, “Saint Dad”, or “Grampy”, was a loving, caring, and humble man.  For many years he volunteered at the local soup kitchen before his family knew what he was up to.  He served as a Senior Warden at Trinity Episcopal, and was also very involved at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.  Above all he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.  He adored his wife, Sonia and did his best to care for her.  They were blessed with 50 years together, raising four beautiful children and five grandchildren.

Edward leaves behind his loving wife, Sonia; three children, Elaine and her husband, Mark, Edward Jr., and Barbara and her husband, Tom “Rick”; grandchildren, Samantha (Evan), Lauren, Scott, Cymbaline, and Ainsley.  He also leaves behind an extended family, large circle of friends, and his Champion Club Community.

A Memorial Service with Military Honors will be held at 3:00 pm, on Saturday, February 6, 2016, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 210 Old North Road, Camden, Delaware 19934.

A Memorial Service will also be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at Trinity Episcopal Church, 18 Ryers Lane, Matawan, New Jersey 07747.  Burial will be private and held at a later date.
