David Lee Durant

    David Lee Durant, eldest child, was born to Emma Lue Pough and Marion Durant in Orangeburg County, South Carolina on October 12, 1935. He went peacefully into the arms of the Lord on August 31, 2015. He was 79 years old.

    David was raised in a Christian home. He attended school in Orangeburg and North, South Carolina. As a young man he worked the family and area farms. Later he traveled to Florida, North Carolina, Philadelphia, and Delaware looking for work. Finding work in Delaware, he settled down and made Delaware his home. David was employed at Wyoming Block Co. for 32 years and Goodwill of Delaware for 10 years, retiring from both.

    In 1976, he became a member of Prince Hall Masons, Prudence Lodger #6, Dover, DE. He loved being a mason, especially the brotherhood that came with it.

    Besides spending time with family, his hobbies included fishing, hunting, and BBQing.

    On September 2, 1961 he married Doris Mae Teat. Together they brought ten children to this union.

    David was preceded in death by his wife, the late Doris Mae Teat Durant, son, Clifford Wayne Teat, three brothers, Joseph Durant, Marion Durant, Kitt Livingston, sister, Beatrice Durant and dearest friend, Leora Heard.

    David leaves to cherish his memories three sons, Jerry Coleman, Washington, D.C., Darry Durant, Dover, DE, Darryl Baily, Ellendale, DE, six daughters, Victoria Teat, Felton, DE, Darrisa Harrison, Dover, DE, Brenda McCreary (Rivers,), Dover, DE, Tina Durant, Felton, DE, Sherry Wright (George) Dover, DE, Valerie Durant, Delaware City, DE, three brothers, J.C. Black, OK, Thomas Livingston, North, South Carolina, James Livingston, North, South Carolina, four sisters, Magdalene Black, Washington, D.C., Mary Sanders, North, South Carolina, Emma Perry, North, South Carolina, Myrtis Butler, Bridgeport, CT, five sisters-in-law, Bertha Durant, Winterhaven, FL, Ann Livingston, North, South Carolina, Margaret Teat, Boston, MA, Martha Durant, FL, Geraldine Livingston, SC, 23 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, one uncle, James Pough, Avon Park, FL, two aunts, Karien Pough,, North, SC, Almeta Pough, North, SC, devoted nephew, Randolph Teat (Jesse), special friends, Lester Scott, Jr., James Burris, Sr., Reggie Quail, family of Mrs. Leora Heard and a host of other relatives & friends.

    We have faith that we never lose the people we love. They continue to participate in every act, thought, and decision we make. Their love leaves us with permanent impressions in our memories and hearts. We find comfort in knowing that our lives have been enriched by having showed their love. We are extremely grateful for the time God allowed us to share. 

    David’s passing is deeply felt by all who knew him. His spirit will always be with us. His love we will forever carry in our hearts. He will be truly and sorrowfully missed by all who knew and loved him.

     A funeral service will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday, September 5, 2015 at the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden Wyoming Avenue, Wyoming, DE 19934 where there will be a viewing from 11:00 to 1:00 on Saturday.  Burial will be private.  Online condolences may be made via www.pippinfuneralhome.com.
