Frederick Holleger

November 13, 1927 ~ November 20, 2016 (age 89) 89 Years Old


            Fred Holleger, 89, passed away on November 20, 2016 at Bayhealth KGH in Dover Delaware.

            Fred was born in Canterbury DE on Nov. 13, 1927 to John and Lola Holleger. Fred worked several jobs, but the ones that truly made an imprint on his life were Hollegers Market in Cheswold, DE and the Delaware State Board of Health.

            Fred was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict. Earned awards were the Korean Service Medal with three Bronze stars, Good Conduct, Combat Infantry, Army of Occupation and WWII Victory medals and the Purple Heart. In addition, Fred also received a letter of high recommendation from his commanding officer and a letter of thank you from President Harry S. Truman.

            Fred was known as an upbeat, fun loving person who was liked by all who knew him. He rarely met anyone from whom he could not get a laugh.

            In addition to his parents, Fred is predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Marian, his son, David Holleger, his son Barry Rose, three sisters and four brothers.

            Fred leaves to cherish his memory, his daughter and husband Reiner and Cheryl Schlitt of Dover DE, his son and wife George and Cathy Holleger of Jefferson, GA, and his son and caregiver Jeff of the family home. Also mourning Freds passing are numerous nieces and nephews, five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.  Fred truly enjoyed the many wonderful times he spent with his family, but especially his niece Bootsie Hollinger who treated him to many lunches, birthday dinners and all around good times.

            Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 26, 2016 at the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, where friends may call one hour earlier.  Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden.

            In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675.
