Willie Allen, Jr. was born March 5 to Willie and Azalia Batchelor in Weldon, NC. His early school years were spent in the Halifax North Carolina school district.
Upon completion of his schooling through the 8th grade, his family moved on to New York City where he would continue his education until he enlisted in the United States Army in November 1963. He went on to serve in the Army until November 1965 and returned home to the Bronx after an honorable discharge. However, in April 1966 he decided to rejoin the military service and enlisted in the United States Air Force. His choice of assignment to Dover Air Force Base placed him close to family in New York but also came to be where he started his own family after marrying his wife in 1969 and having a son later that year in December. Willie, known to his friends by his last name Allen, continued to serve in the Air Force for over 20 years with his family by his side. During those 20 years he served in numerous locations and was a Vietnam War Veteran. In 1987 after retirement from the Air Force, he went on to serve in uniform again for the Delaware Department of Corrections until reaching his full retirement age in 2002.
Allen is preceded in death by his beloved mother Azaila Walker and loving wife, Ruth Allen. He is survived by his son, Aldarko and daughter-in-law, Alexandra; granddaughters, Annalise and Abigayle Allen all of Las Vegas, NV. His father, Willie Allen, Sr.; sister, Ruth Henderson; favorite nephew, Andre Francis and the nieces he adored, Tanya Keys and Cheryl Williams; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Most importantly and last but by no means least, his steadfast, trusted and true friend LaMark Bell.
A Funeral Service for Allen will be held on Monday, February 5, 2024 at 11:00am at Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave. Wyoming, DE 19934. The family will receive friends one hour prior. The graveside for Allen will follow at Delaware Veterans Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way Millsboro, DE 19966.
