Walter Wesley Cannon

Walter Wesley Cannon “ Sput” of Milford, DE departed this life on April 9, 2026 at the age of 66. He was affectionately known as Sputnik or Sput for short. He was born on July 7, 1959 in Milford, Delaware to the late Nettie L. Cannon and Walter Smith.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Nettie L. Cannon, his father Walter Smith, his daughter Sharon Faison-Cannon, his brothers Michael and Clifford Cannon, and his two favorite uncles, Ralph Ross and Clarence Cannon.

Walter graduated from Milford High School where he played drums in the marching band and was in the drama club. Shortly after high school he joined the Marines and proudly served for six years. Walter worked at Milford Memorial Hospital, Acme, Bonanza Restaurant, Baltimore Air Coil and most recently, construction. Walter became a black belt in Tae Kwon Do under two masters, Tony Reynolds and Bruce Sudler. Fitness was always his passion and he was a long time member of Planet Fitness and other area gyms.

Walter had 3 children- Sharon Faison-Cannon whose mother is Shelly Faison, Derick Cannon-whose mother is Denise Stinnett and Crystal Cannon- whose mother is Anna Young. Walter leaves to mourn Derick- his son, and Crystal-his daughter; his sisters- Ethel “Peaches” Silva (Miguel), Phyllis Cannon and Lorie Cannon and Tina Cox, his love and later his caregiver when he became ill. He also leaves his loving aunts- Sharon Howell and Eunice Cannon. Walter spent a lot of time with his nephews, Jonathan, Julius (whom he called his twin) and Jeffery laughing, joking and teaching them martial arts. He played and joked with his niece Marriea and lovingly nicknamed her “Meeda.” He also leaves a host of loving cousins, nieces, nephews, family and friends.

     Service will be Sunday, July 12, 2026 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the Milford Senior Center, 111 Park Avenue, Milford, Delaware.
