Vaughn McCall was born September 29, 1957 in Newport News Virginia. He was raised by his mother Betty and stepfather, the late Isiah Crowell in Newark NJ.
Vaughn graduated from Barringer High School, Newark, NJ. He met Karen Elizabeth Weaver, whom he led to Jesus Christ, and her water baptism at his church.
Karen and Vaughn were married August 27, 1977 at Morris Hill Baptist Church. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in September 1978. He and Karen moved to Dover, Delaware as he was stationed at Dover Air Force Base. Together they raised their four children in Dover. The Air Force provided international and domestic travel opportunities to this history buff. Vaughn served this country for 20 years. Staff Sargeant Vaughn McCall retired October 1998. After his military retirement, Vaughn worked at Kmart for 2 years and lastly for the county as a water technician at the Levy Court Power Plant. He retired after 18 years of service.
Vaughn was a quiet and very smart man. He loved history, the New York Giants football team and listening to oldies but goodies. The band Earth Wind and Fire was his all-time favorite. Vaughn, with his infectious laugh, was the cool quiet uncle. His nieces called him “Wesley Snipes” and his nephews called him “Slick”. They loved him and he loved them right back. He was equally loved by his family and Karen’s family.
Recently Vaughn attended Transformation Church with his wife, Lay Minister Karen.
Karen and Vaughn were married forty-seven ½ years.
Vaughn was called to his eternal rest January 29, 2025.
He was preceded in death by his two brothers Jerome Morrow and Shawn Dewitt.
Vaughn leaves to cherish his memory his wife Karen Elizabeth McCall: two sons, Del’Vaughn and Aaronn of Dover; two daughters, Keeshanna Dixon (Devon) of Texas and La’Rin Chappell of Camden; ten grandchildren: Genesis, Aniyah, Phillip, James, Jammal, Tristian, Amaurya, Aliyvah, Noah, and Zara; his mother Betty Crowell; sisters Kimberley Mitchell of AZ, Jackie Dewitt of PA, Bridgette Morrow of NC and brother Trevor Dewitt of PA; two brothers-in-laws, Joseph Sanders (Deborah) of Newark NJ and Brian Sanders (Mary) of Allentown PA; four sisters-in-law, Audrey Nazulme of Philadelphia PA, Pedals Adams of Franklin NJ, Glenda Belle of Sayreville NJ and Wanda Belle of Jackson NJ, and a host of nieces, nephews, uncles, cousins, family and friends.
A funeral service will be 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, February 11, 2025 at Greater Life Christian Church, 240 Headstart Lane, Dover, DE 19901. Burial will follow in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro. Online condolences may be made via www.pippinfuneralhome.com.
