Tyler Benscoter Obituary

Tyler Joseph Benscoter, age eleven, wished he was from Miami but was in fact from Magnolia, Delaware. He was OK with being from Delaware but frequently verbalized his intention to move to a warmer climate. This writer (his mother) agrees that moving to Florida for warmer days really isn’t a terrible notion.

If Tyler were to live in Florida as an adult, I imagine he would have a loyal canine companion because he loved dogs so very much. He would not have a human partner as he frequently declared he had no intention of ever getting married. He would definitely need to be in a golf-cart friendly community as he was a stellar driver well before the age allowable to receive a drivers permit. We can certainly thank his Nana for all the time she spent giving him lessons pro bono. That, and of course, being his ultimate snack dealer. He was never short of Pepsi, Cheese-Its, Twizzlers, or Jolly Ranchers.

When not out burning rubber on the road, I imagine he would enjoy an afternoon playing video games with his cousins Ava, McKenzie, Ben, and Charlie. His cousin Alden would probably enjoy playing video games too but we can’t be certain. He is currently only one year old and Tyler didn’t get to share Mario Kart or Just Dance battles with him. Tyler thoroughly enjoyed watching Alden drop food off his high chair and squeal in delight as Bruno (Tyler’s lovable labradoodle) lapped up every scrap. His favorite time was when Alden let Bruno lick mashed potatoes off his spoon— Tyler’s laugh was just the best.

I imagine Tyler and his Papa would get together for boat rides out on the water. The air would move gently over Tyler’s perfectly maintained head of hair since he made sure he got it cut on a very regular basis. A fresh cut was something he truly looked forward to every month. Tyler and Papa would probably spend some time fishing. Afterward, Papa would take him on a gentle tube ride since Tyler liked a little bit of adventure but really didn’t have an appetite for anything too intense. Once back from the water they would play Trivia Crack together.

As a career Tyler would decide to be a comedian. He was excellent with his dry, sarcastic humor and had an expert level of comedic timing. His wit would stop people in their tracks before making them burst out laughing. Tyler’s plan was to start out in stand-up comedy and then transition into major movie roles. He got his love for comedy from his Grandpa who, to be fair, is pretty much the silliest person anyone has ever met. Tyler and Grandpa shared a lot of jokes, and laughs, together. Grandpa and Tyler also shared a love of mini golf. Unfortunately for Grandpa, he was bested by Tyler every time.

When on break from his comedy tour, Tyler would probably travel for pleasure instead of for business. His number one travel agent would have to be Grandma. She expertly planned a top-notch trip to Lego Land last year. Grandma also coordinated a Disney Cruise trip which was, by far, Tyler’s most favorite vacation of all time. If vacation time was short, they would be sure to have some fun by eating popcorn and going to Spider Man movies at a local theater.

Tyler would definitely prioritize spending time with his sisters. He and Sophia would good-naturedly poke fun at each other. She would tease him about his love of sports and he would make fun of her inexplicable love of Agent Coulson. It would be in jest, of course, since the gift he was most excited to give at Christmas was a bobblehead doll of her aforementioned “crush”. He ordered it months in advance and vigilantly checked the mail every day until its arrival.

I have a feeling Emily and Tyler would spend time debating what movie or TV show to watch. He arguing for something in the “action/adventure” genre, and she lobbying to watch the same Disney movie on repeat. I’d like to think they would find an agreeable compromise without their mother’s intercession, and because I’m an eternal optimist, I think they would. At some point in their time together, Emily would inevitably say or do something hilarious and Tyler would slap his forehead, smirk, and chuckle to himself like he has done so many times before.

Tyler and his Dad would continue to get along like two peas in a pod. This is so plainly obvious because Tyler is his father’s mini-me. The nail-biting, soda loving lefties are practically one in the same. I bet they would watch a lot of football together and discuss the merits of each and every Marvel movie in excruciating detail. They would, of course, do this with each other because none of the Benscoter women could ever be imagined enjoying such lengthy discussions about a fictitious universe. They would laugh together when Mom, Sophia, or Emily would eventually mistakenly mix up a DC character as a Marvel one. I bet they would continue to fly drones, build massive lego sets, and spend time camping together.

Since Tyler would never marry, Mom would continue to be his most favorite person in the whole world. With such partiality towards me, he would continue to remind his father, “happy wife, happy life!” We would spend hours singing karaoke in the living room to all the latest pop songs. He would take care of me by reminding me when Wawa had free coffee and always offer to help me cook in the kitchen. We would make a habit of reading by the fire and he would frequently wrap me in one of his award-winning hugs while telling me, “You are the best Mom.”

Tyler’s life positively impacted so many people far and wide. We would be honored to celebrate his life with you on his birthday at one of his favorite places.
