Steven Gedney Obituary

Steven Wallace Gedney, of Dover, DE, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 31, 2025 at Kent General Hospital. He was 71 years old.

Born on April 22, 1953, in Wilmington, DE, Steve was the eldest child of the late Wallace A. and Carolyn C. Gedney.  He was also preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Gedney.

Steve attended Caesar Rodney High School, where he played on the baseball team-a lifelong passion of his.  He also loved a good game of pickup basketball, coached Little League baseball, and later took up slow-pitch softball, where he thrived in competition.  His love of games extended to nine-ball pool and poker, often spending weekends in Atlantic City.  Summers found him in Dewey Beach, enjoying time on his jet skis.

One of Steve’s greatest passions was music.  He taught himself to play the organ and was known for his unforgettable rendition of MacArthur’s Park. His love for live music led him to purchase JW’s Sports Bar, where he could book his favorite bands and share his passion with others.

Throughout his career, Steve worked a ABC Laundry before becoming the Laundry Manager at The Hospital for the Chronically Ill in Smyrna, DE.  After retiring, he launched his own business, Delaware Landscaping, which he managed alongside JW’s Sports Bar until health no longer allowed.

Steve is lovingly remembered by his wife, Teresa; his children, Brian (Gabriella) and Jessica; and his grandchildren, Ava Gedney, Jaxon Gedney, and Landon Hemingway.  He is also survived by his sisters, Pat (Dave)Braun and Joanne Gedney; his brother, Robert (Lynn) Gedney; and many nieces and nephews, including his favorite niece, Katie Gedney Caplinger.  He leaves behind many dear friends as well.

A service to honor Steve’s life will be held at Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden Wyoming Ave. Wyoming, DE 19934 on Friday April 11, 2025.  Visitation will begin at 9:00am followed by the service at 11:00am.  Interment will take place at Sharon Hills Memorial Park in Dover.

Steve’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.  His passion for life, his love for family and friends, and the joy he found in music and sports will never be forgotten.
