Stephen G. Schmittinger went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 7, 2025. He was 81 years old.
Stephen was born on April 22, 1944 in Wilmington, Delaware, son of the late George and Stella Schmittinger (birth parents) and the late Willis and Naomi Martin.
Stephen served in the U.S Army during the Vietnam War in South Korea. He also served in the Delaware National Guard in Delaware City and Milford. Stephen retired from the Chrysler Corporation after 32 years of service. He was a member of Capitol Baptist Church for many years. He enjoyed hot rods, classic cars, and wrestling.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Stella Schmittinger and Willis and Naomi Martin, and brothers Danny Schmittinger and Willis Martin Jr.
Stephen is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sharon Schmittinger; two daughters, Lisa Thomson and husband Charles of Dover, Deborah Edwards and husband Brian of Dover; four grandchildren, Emily Christianson (Isaac), Elizabeth Thomson Hennessy (Brandon), Rachel Thomson Troyer (Dylan), and Sarah Edwards; a sister Shirley Wallace, many nieces, nephews and church friends.
Service will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, August 18, 2025 in the Capitol Baptist Church, 401 Kesselring Avenue, Dover, DE, where friends may visit one hour earlier. Burial will follow in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover, Delaware.
