Shirley Lee Sophia Little
Shirley was born on September 18, 1933 in Dover, DE. She was baptized in the Greek Orthodox Church, November 13, 1947, in Wilmington, DE. She later married Mickey Little in 1955 and raised her family in Little Creek for the remainder of her life. She joined the Little Creek Methodist Church and raised her family within the church. She was the past president of the Little Creek Volunteer Fire Company.
Shirley is survived by her daughter Holly, her son Mickey and Susan, her son Michael and Connie, and her son Terry and Nancy Little, with their children and grandchildren. Her brothers Charles, Thomas, and Jimmy Kleles, and sisters Anna Pizzi, Betty Scott, Patricia Hemphill.
Shirley was a self-taught lobbyist – the first female lobbyist to our knowledge, registered in the state of Delaware. In her years of working with legislators, she was well respected and admired for her professionalism and honesty.
She enjoyed many years spending time at her beach house. Almost every weekend was spent crabbing, clamming and boating. Those weekends were also spent with her husband and children at Bethany Beach.
While she was at home in Little Creek, she harvested various fruits and vegetables with her husband. Canning tomatoes, hanging onions, picking strawberries and many other foods from the garden were the centerpiece of bringing her family together to share stories and spend time with each other.
We want to remember her for this, bringing our families together. Family meant a great deal to her, and providing what she could give to each of us. Many times she did without to ensure we had everything that we needed. We never really knew how hard she worked to make our lives better.
