Shirley Elizabeth Boyd, a native of Felton, Delaware, was born on July 7, 1947, and peacefully departed this life on July 26, 2025. She was the beloved daughter of the late Elizabeth Lawrence. Shirley was a devoted wife, mother, cherished friend, and a beacon of light to all who knew her. Her kindness and unwavering love shaped the lives of those around her, leaving a legacy of warmth and compassion that will forever be remembered.
For over 20 years, Shirley worked in retail at Value City, where she built lifelong friendships. She later joined Delaware State University as a cafeteria cashier, where she did much more thanhandle payments. She took time to connect with students, offering words of encouragement and brightening many daily lives.
A faithful member of New Jerusalem Baptist Church since 1987, Shirley loved her church family deeply. She actively participated in the Senior Choir, Mass Choir, and the Kitchen Committee. She also served with dedication as Church Clerk, Florist, and Chairman of the Pastor Aide Committee.
Shirley found joy in making floral arrangements and treasured time spent shopping and chatting with her close friends Sherry and Sandy. One of her favorite pastimes was sharing meals withher church family after service and taking mini vacations to Virginia.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Boyd Jr.; her mother, Elizabeth Lawrence; grandmother, Mabel Perry; sister, Gloria Davis; and niece, Cory Davis. Shirley is survived by her sisters, Doris Jeter (Teddy) of Dover, DE, and Kimberly Lawrence of Maryland; three daughters, Sheron Perry of Clayton, DE, Devon Steele (Ryan) of Williamsburg,VA, and Shanae Boyd of Dover, DE; two sons, Eugene Boyd III (Tamu) of Smyrna, DE, and Ventrus Boyd (Virginia) of Tucson, AZ; four grandchildren, David, Jaelyn, Jasmin, and Jabrielle; two great-grandchildren, Jordan Perry and Elias Brooks; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, great-grandchildren, and friends.
Shirley’s love, light, and spirit will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
A funeral service will take place on Saturday, August 9, 2025 at 11:00am at Pippin Funeral Home. The family will receive friends two hours prior beginning at 9:00am. The burial will follow at Sharon Hills in Dover.
