Sheila V. Skinner, 74, died Friday, April 11, 2025 at Baylor Heath Hospital Dover, Delaware. Ms. Skinner was born on February 12, 1951 in Chester, PA to the late Robert Skinner, Sr. and Beulah V. Jones. She was raised by her stepfather, the late Mervin L. Jones, Sr.
She received her education in the Chester School District. Later she moved to Dover, Delaware where she was employed by Edwell (Playtex) until she retired. Sheila loved listening to her “oldies but goodies” and her favorite R&B artist Jaheim. She was a “TRUE EAGLES FAN” and she loved reading her Bible.
She was preceded in death by: Robert Skinner, Sr. (father), Beulah V. Jones (mother), Mervin L. Jones, Sr. (step-father), John Skinner (brother), Glen Skinner (brother), Taimur Harris (brother), Dennis Skinner (brother), Theodore Jones (brother), Reggie Glover (brother), Alice Draughon (sister),Mervina Creighton (sister), Sylvia Jones (sister), Mervin L. Jones III (nephew), and Gary Byard Jr. (stepson).
She leaves to mourn her: only daughter, Valarie Skinner Matthews, her nephew whom she raised like a son Marcus Skinner (Dover, DE), a daughter she raised Charlene Green (Tacoma, WA), and Yolanda Barnes whom she loved like a daughter (Robinson, GA.)
Her brothers: Robert G. Skinner II, Robert Skinner III, and Stevie Skinner (PA), Howard Jones, Ronald Skinner, Michael Skinner, Mervin L. Jones, Jr. (Thowana) (DE).
Her sisters: Patricia Skinner and Elizabeth Skinner (PA), Vanessa Banks (Elijah) and Leona Jones (DE), Acquanetta Tucker (Brian) (TX), Delsie Jenkins (Darwayne) (MD).
Her grandchildren: Natassia McFadden, Randall Matthews, Sheila Matthews, Marcus Skinner, Jr. (DE) Charles Little and Tamikia Jones (WA).
Her great-grandchildren: Ahjeona Powell, Zahir Bloom, John Diggs, Jr., Journey Diggs, Samiah Mathis (DE) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Her best friends Rhonda Beckett, Ms. Liz, and Ms. Barbara.
Her faithful brother-in-law, Tony Barry Creighton, and son-in-law, Donald Matthews
A Celebration of Sheila's life will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, April 26th at the Delaware State University Martin Luther King Center.
