Obituary

     Sandra Ann Nelson, of Camden,DE., passed away peacefully, Sunday, March 5, 2023 in the Delaware Hospice Center, Milford, DE. She was 55.

     Sandy was born October 6, 1967 in Perth Amboy, N.J.; and lived there and in Sayreville, Keasbey, and Woodbridge, before relocating to Delaware in 2002.

     She worked at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Perth Amboy as an answering service telephone operator from the age of 16 until relocating to Delaware. Once in the the state, she obtained her License as a Certified Nursing Assistant and Palliative Care Nursing Assistant; working in various nursing facilities, Delaware Hospice, and Vitas Hospice for over 15 years. Sandy loved taking care of her patients and their families, and truly enjoyed her chosen profession.

     In her free time she loved to take cruises( 24 since 2010), and made lots of lifetime friends in the “smoke hut” aboard various Royal Caribbean Ships.

     She was preceded in death by her mother, Carol (Huff) Poulsen, who died in 2006.

  Sandy is survived by her husband of 28 years, Robert J. Lakatos;  4 children, Heather Lonyai (Chris), of South Amboy, N.J. ; Michael Nelson(Jess), of Milford, DE; Michelle Nelson(Kris), of Camden, DE and Christopher Nelson, of Daytona Beach, Florida; step-daughter, Colleen Sisman(Dan), of Plant City, Florida; 5 step-grandchildren, Alexa, Madison, Braden, Keegan, and Siobhan Tinney, all of Florida; her father, Lester R. Poulsen, Sr., of East Brunswick, N.J.; 2 sisters, Lona Minkler(Kevin), of Camden, DE and Donna Huff, of Altoona, Pa.; a brother, Lester R. Poulsen, Jr.(Dana), of East Brunswick, N.J.; 2 aunts, Sandy Jensen & Maryjane Rios, of New Jersey; several nieces, nephews, cousins, fur babies, and Roxy.

     The family wishes to extend a BIG Thank You to Dr.Goyal, both Dr. John’s & their staffs; the nurses on the 3rd floor at Bayhealth/ Kent General Hospital; and The Delaware Hospice Center, for their care and compassion shown to her and her family.

      A Viewing will be held from 2-5 pm, Sunday, March 12, 2023, in Pippin Funeral Home, Inc., 119 West Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, DE.
