Sandra Mitchell Obituary
Sandra Lee Mitchell, 68, a lifelong resident of Ridgely, Maryland, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, June 20th, 2025, at Compass Regional Hospice in Centerville. Sandy battled with ALS, a rare disease, for over two years. Sandy was born on March 10th, 1957, in Easton, Maryland, to the late Benny Sr. and Ruth Buckle.
Sandy attended North Caroline High School in Ridgely, Maryland, until she married Duane Mitchell Sr. She worked alongside him, driving, grooming, and training racehorses. They had one son together, Duane Mitchell Jr, “Little Duane”, whom she loved more than anything in this world.
Sandy worked as a private caretaker for several years before working at Sam’s Restaurant as a beloved waitress and hostess. In her later years, Sandy ran a private cleaning business at Kent Island Dentistry until ALS made it impossible for her to continue working. She was also a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Skipton, Maryland, making her dedication in November 2009. Sandy enjoyed dancing, cruises, watching TV, camping with her family, doing her yard work, and laughing at almost anything and everything.
Sandy is survived by her son, Duane Mitchell Jr. (Breonne Mitchell) of Felton, DE., and her only granddaughter, Tymber Mitchell of Felton, DE. Her siblings are Penny Kitchen (ER Kitchen) of Denton, MD., Buck Buckle (Wilma Buckle) of Goldsboro, MD., Yogi Carroll (Doug Carroll) of Ridgely, MD. Lastly, Perry Buckle (Margaret Buckle) of Denton, MD., five nieces, four nephews, and lots of loving family and friends.
Sandy’s service will be on July 11th, at 1 P.M.at the Kingdom Hall in Cordova, MD. Following the service, food and fellowship will be held at the Cordova Fire Hall in Cordova, MD. Instead of bringing flowers, donations to Care For ALS, C/O Andrew Smith 11073 Central Ave. Ridgely MD. would be deeply appreciated.
