It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Russel Morris Bender 58 of Marydel, DE on May 16th, 2026 at his home.
Russel was a life-long resident of Marydel, DE born on November 27, 1967 at Kent General Hosp. in Dover Delaware.
He attended Caesar Rodney High School where he was on the wrestling team graduating with the Class of 1986. He also attended Kent County VO-Tech where he learned his wealth of knowledge in electrical wiring. He later went on to learn plumbing and many other skilled trades throughout his life. Russel eventually owned and operated his own business building homes for many years. He had many jobs during his lifetime some of the jobs he was most proud of included working with Charles Messina Plumbing and Electric for many years. He also worked for Tidewater Utilities and Laws Septic Service as a handyman.
In his earlier years, Russel had a true passion for cooking and enjoyed preparing meals for his family. Russel loved the Fourth of July celebrations with his family and always making a trip to acquire fireworks. He found peace and happiness on the water, spending countless hours fishing, clamming and crabbing. Russel also loved riding motorcycles, especially alongside his late friend Pep Nolette, creating memories and adventures he cherished deeply. Known for his jovial laugh and larger-than-life personality, Russel never missed a good party and was always ready to share a story, a smile, or a laugh with those around him. He was a very outgoing person who never knew a stranger; always able to strike up a conversation with anyone he met. His warm personality and easy smile made him instantly likeable to all who knew him. Russel also dearly loved his cats, which brought him comfort and companionship throughout his life. Though his earthly struggles have ended the family takes comfort knowing that he can now rest in peace. He will not be remembered for his hardships but for his laughter and the good memories he leaves behind.
Russel was the beloved son to the late Clayton Ervin Bender and Lis Bender. He leaves behind his lifelong partner of 37 years Cynthia Martin and their sons Jonathan Bender and Tanner Bender. Sister Melody Bender and her partner John Forbes, his brother John Bender and his wife Liberty, his niece Stacey Ramsburg and her husband Chase his great nephew Camden and great niece Ryleigh, his nephew Bryan Bender, Aunt and Uncle Marianne and Henrich Wulff, cousins: Sheila Fowler, Johnny Jones, Kenneth Reseke and Tine Markvard Vind.
He also leaves behind and extended family John and Wynette Martin, Gwen and Jeffrey Klimowski, Brandi and Charles Humbertson their daughters Brinley and Charlie and many friends and acquaintances.
The family has chosen to not have a funeral but he will be cremated and lovely brought home to remain close to his family. There will be a private family celebration of his life at a later date.
