Ronald Miller Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ronald Louis Miller (Ron) of Smyrna, De on June 14, 2026. Ronald was born on July 17, 1946, in Peoria, Illinois to the late Alphonso E. Miller Sr. and Mary E. Little.

Ron attended Washington elementary school and Normal Soldiers and Sailors School in Illinois.  He then moved to Delaware where he started one year of college at Del Tech before he joined the military in 1965. He served in the Army National Guard and Navy for 21 years before retiring in 1996. In his 21 years of being in the military he was stationed and traveled to many places before coming back to Delaware to reside.

Ron always kept a job, but his longest tenure was working for Kraft foods for over 25 years, up until his retirement in 2021. During his time at Kraft Foods, he was in many organizations and performed charity work giving back to the community.

Ron was a loveable, outgoing spirit who would help anyone in need and would talk to anyone. He could hold a conversation for hours talking about anything from his love for the Lord, to his Chicago Bears or any sport for that matter. Ron had a love for writing and wrote and published a book of poems. He often said God would wake him in the middle of the night and he would just start writing.

He loved his family dearly and kept in touch with them near and far. He looked forward to vacations where he went home to visit family. He had a special love for his grandchildren and would talk about them to anyone who would listen.  He also was a part of many Men’s Clubs and Ministries, too many to name. In those clubs he mentored the youth and young men as well as fellowshipping with other men and his veteran buddies.

Ron attended Union Baptist Church and was a member for many years, where he sang on the Men’s Choir and was an usher.

Ron is preceded in death by his father Alphonso E. Miller, Mother Mary E. Little, and nephew Aqeel Abdul-Aleem.

Ronald leaves to cherish his memories his daughters Thais Lockett (Gregory), and Sonya Miller; one brother Ali Abdul-Aleem (Bernadine), and sister Mary Millicent Miller, his grandchildren Gregory Jr, Isaiah, Terron, Ronald, Elijah, Keyron, Roniece and another granddaughter on the way, a host of many extended family members, friends, military, and church family.

A funeral service will be held at Union Baptist Church, 883 Lincoln Street, Dover, Delaware, on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at 11:00 am.  Family and friends may call beginning at 10:00 am.
