Ronald Emile Lemay passed away peacefully on April 16, 2025, at the age of 98.
Ronald “Ron” was born in Central Falls, RI, son of Ronaldo Lemay and Catherine Leighton. He was preceded in death by his older sister Gloria Cullen (Gaston), his younger brother Gerald Lemay (Mary), and by his beloved wife of 60 years, Frances Mary Furey, of Brooklyn NY.
Ron was most proud of graduating from West Point Military Academy. He served five years in the United States Air Force, achieving the rank of Captain. Upon leaving the military, Ron earned his MBA at Wharton Business School. He entered the business world in a managerial position at Playtex in Dover, DE. Playtex transferred his family to Puerto Rico and later to Australia, but the Lemay family always returned to Dover. Ron was an active member of the Knights of Columbus with Holy Cross Church, rising to the level of 4th Order.
Ron’s other professed crowning achievement was marrying the love of his life, Frances “Frankie” Furey. Ron was devoted to his wife, a warm, vivacious woman who filled his world with joy. They were intent on having a large family, but settled on a mere half dozen. When the children were young, he took them on Sunday drives, and every night, he would re-tuck each child snugly in their bed. Once the children were older, the family enjoyed tent camping in Cape May, NJ. As empty nesters, Ron and Frankie were loyal patrons of Patchwork Playhouse and regular attendees of Modern Maturity Center dances.
After Frankie passed away, Ron assumed the mantle of emotional supporter. He became the communication hub of the family. He was always available, ready to listen to his children whenever they called or visited. He had a kind ear, an easy laugh, and a knack for asking questions; he could draw out even the quietest of grandchildren.
In his final years, Ron moved to an assisted living facility where he maintained a positive attitude. He was positive he’d live to 100! He was gracious to all and brought smiles and joy to everyone. He enthusiastically showed his appreciation for the provided entertainment, especially if it involved music. His presence there will be missed.
The Lemay family would like to thank Dover Place assisted living staff and Delaware Hospice for their incredible kindness and for the tender care given to their father.
Ronald Emile Lemay is survived by his six children: Catherine Lemay, Mary Constance Lemay, Ronald Lemay (Diane Morgan), Christine Lemay, Joanne Lemay (Mario Loo), Elizabeth Lemay Windell (Michael). He had 12 grandchildren: David/Rebecca Walsh, Ronald Walsh (Kathleen); James Mitchell, Laura Mitchell, Emily Mitchell Hernandez (Doug); Darryl Morgan, Kyle Morgan, LauRa Morgan Wise (Colin); Andrew Lemay-Loo; Jastin Windell Perkins (Jarrod), Nichole Windell Howell (Edward), and Shane Windell. He had 9 great-grandchildren: Daniel Walsh and Stephen Walsh; Henry Walsh, Matthew Walsh, Sullivan Walsh and Timothy Walsh; Piper Perkins; Brystal Howell and Paislee Howell.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12:00 noon, Tuesday, April 22, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 631 S. State St., Dover, DE. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
