Ronald Stephen Hercha, Sr., of Dover, passed away peacefully, September 5, 2022 in Bayhealth/Kent General Hospital. He was 79.
Ron was born February 1, 1943, in Baltimore, Maryland to the late, Frank & Jennie(Levinsky) Hercha. He served proudly in the United States Air Force for over 20 years, and during the Vietnam War, retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant.While in the Air Force he also served as an Air Traffic Controller. After returning from the military, he worked for Prudential Insurance Company and the State of Delaware; before starting his own business Central Delaware Training Academy, which he operated for 15 years before retiring.
He was a member of the Free & Accepted Masons, Union Lodge # 7, Dover; the Shriners, American Legion, and Delaware Veterans Association. In his leisure time, he umpired, and coached little league & high school baseball and Pop-Warner Football. He enjoyed golfing every weekend, playing cards, and going on cruises. Ron also obtained his Private Pilots License.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Theodore Hercha; and step-brothers, Leo & Richard Szymanski.
Ron is survived by his wife of 56 years Sylvia(Kline) Hercha; 2 children, Denise Hercha Doughty(Michael), of Magnolia and Ronald “J.R.” Hercha, Jr., of Dover; his step-brother, Marion Szymanski, of Baltimore; and 2 grandchildren, Avery Chandler(Megan), of Alaska and Aniya Doughty, of Dover; many cousins in the Baltimore Area, and 2 nieces.
Funeral Services will be held 12 noon, Thursday, September 15, 2022 in Pippin Funeral Home, Inc., 119 West Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming; where family and friends may view from 10am-12 noon. Services will continue at 2pm, in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro, with a Masonic Service and Full Military Honors. In Lieu of Flowers contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, or Veterans of Foreign Wars in his memory. Condolences may be sent via:
