Robert George Obituary

   Robert I. George Jr. (Bob), age 64, of Georgetown passed away on Saturday, December 19, 2020 at Nanticoke Hospital while fighting a battle with COVID 19. Bob was born February 6, 1956, in Flint Michigan. He was a graduate of Southwestern High School, class of 1974, where he played football and was a star wrestler. He then moved to Georgetown, Delaware where he graduated with an Associate degree in Criminal Justice at Delaware Tech and a Bachelor degree in Criminal Justice from Wilmington University. 

   Bob took a job at Sussex Correctional Institute where eventually became warden for 30 years. In his job as warden he was responsible for establishing and the operation of the Sussex Violation Center. After retiring, Bob worked for The Nakamoto Group, Inc. from September 24, 2007 - April 12, 2010 as a Compliance Monitor of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Detention Facilities. He then worked for Core Civic as an Associate Warden at Otay Mesa Detention Center. He was the manager of Fishhook Trailer Park in Georgetown. Then his main focus was on being a grandfather, A.K.A. Baka to David. 

   Bob was a Mason, Scout Leader for Troop 999, and the swim coach for the Sussex Central High School where he became a mentor and role model for many of his swimmers. He was voted Swim Coach of the Year after coaching only 3 years.

   He loved playing golf with his buddies and was an avid Michigan fan, “GO BLUE”!

    Bob is survived by his wife, Dora (Briggs) George and sons Travis, Devin and grandson David, his mother, Carol Brown and step dad Edward Brown, sister Stacy Slater, nephew Christopher Slater, sister-in-law Eleanor and George Adams, nephew and niece Alphie and Emma,  great nephews Keane, Ollie, and Phoebe. He is preceded in death by his brother Richard George and nephew John L. Adams.

   Due to Covid – 19 the family is going to hold a “Celebration of Life” at a later date.
