Obituary

   Richard T. Olson , of Greenwood, DE, went home to be with the Lord, surrounded by his loving family, Sunday, November 28, 2021. He was 93.

   He was born, May 9, 1928, in  Minneapolis  Minnesota  to the Late, Lavonne  and Martin G. Olson. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his 3 sons, David, Tommy, and Eric, and a very special step son-in-law and friend Bobby Hambleton.

  Richard is survived by his daughter. Peggy Bensel, 2 step daughters Debbie and Patty of Maryland, Tracy Payne of Virginia, wife Dee, Sister Lavonne, niece Dr. Lesley Omary and family of Nashville Tenn.;  nephew Professor David Tarleton and family of Oak Park, Illinois; plus his great niece and nephews.

   Richard graduated from Upper Darby High school Pa. After graduation,  he joined the Army , served 1946 to 1948 in Japan, served 1 year in Merchant Marines, and retired Captain from the Coast Guard.  After the war Dick took up professional motorcycle raising for 10 years till a serious accident on the track ended that career,  He went to college at Villanova graduating ,5th in class. He then took on the sport of log canoe racing for the Duponts, plus working as a delivery captain sailing yachts to the Islands.  He did this till he was 75. He was an accountant for Talbot County Md. from which he retired .

  He loved the Lord and his Church, Southside Baptist In Camden De. He loved all  kids, he's left 3 very special kids Katie,  Payton, and Kensley whom he loved as his own.

  Burial will be private. 

  There will be a Celebration of Life December 18th,2021 at 11am in Southside Baptist Church, Camden; where family and friends may gather from 10:30am-11. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Church. Condolences may be sent via:www.pippinfuneralhome.com.
