Charles Edward Blue Sr. lovingly known as Dad, Pop-Pop, brother, uncle, Rev. Blue, Mr. Blue and Charlie was born on July 21, 1949 in Clinton North Carolina. He went home to be with the Lord on October 12, 2024 at Kent General Hospital in Dover, Delaware.
Charles was a devoted husband to his wife of 52 years Shelley Blue who preceded him in death on September 24, 2023.
Charles grew up in Fayetteville, North Carolina. He graduated high school in 1968 and enlisted in the United States Army shortly after and he was honorably discharged. He lived most of his adult life in New Jersey and retired in 2009 and moved to Smyrna Delaware in 2012.
Charles was an electrician by trade. He served with the IBEW for nearly 40 years. Throughout his career he worked all over the Northeast restoring power after storms. He was known as being a calming force in a sometimes-chaotic work environment.
Charles was an ordained minister of the Gospel for over 30 years at the Somerset Baptist Church in Somerset, New Jersey. He was a founding member and also served as a Deacon, choir member, and associate minister during his time at SBC. Charles was a faithful servant of God. He enjoyed attending church events and retreats, visiting the sick, or just offering an encouraging word.
Charles loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He never forgot to call his family on their birthdays. He loved to cook and eat, he loved bowling, he loved watching football and was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. In all things he kept Jesus at the center of his life. He was currently a member of New Harvest Baptist Church in Dover, DE, where he served as a Deacon and he was a part of the men’s ministry.
Charles is now in everlasting glory with his wife Shelley, his parents Stanford and Annie Blue and his brother Kenneth Blue. He leaves to cherish his loving memory his 3 children: Brandon Blue, Charles Blue Jr., and Jessica Blue-Avorgbedor (Bright); 5 grandchildren (Brandon Jr., Korri, Levi, Jael, and Lewis); 2 great grandchildren; 3 brothers: Donnie (Julia), Joseph, and Jerry (Valerie). 3 sisters: Patricia, Brenda, and Shirley: as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
His legacy of love, faith, and service will endure, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
