With deep love and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Raymond J. McCloskey, Sr., who peacefully passed away on May 1, 2026 at the age of 84.
Born on March 1, 1942 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Raymond was a proud retired Master Sergeant of the United States Air Force, a man defined by his strength, discipline, and unwavering sense of duty. He served his country with honor and carried those values with him throughout his life, leading by example with quiet dignity, resilience, and integrity. To those who knew him best, Raymond was a strong yet gentle protector, a steady presence whose love was shown through his actions. He was deeply devoted to his family and took pride in providing, guiding, and always being there when it mattered most.
Raymond shared an extraordinary 61 years of marriage with his steady and loving wife, Annette, who remained faithfully by his side through every chapter of life. Together, they built a life centered on family, loyalty, and enduring love.
He is survived by his beloved wife Annette; his children Sheryl Lynn McCloskey of Camden, Delaware, and Raymond John McCloskey, Jr. of Florida, and his wife Taryn; his cherished grandchildren: Nicholas Avery, Olivia Grace, Emma Rose, and Hope Kennedy: as well as his great grandchild Oliver John. He is also survived by his sister Victoria Lawing of South Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Stephanie Colleen McCloskey, and by his parents Martha Gehrke McCloskey, a devoted homemaker, and Thomas Francis McCloskey, a Philadelphia police officer.
Raymond found joy in the simple things that made a house a home. He loved his home, took pride in his yard, and had a passion for his cars. He was proud of his German and Irish heritage, and he carried that pride in his character as a hardworking, loyal, and grounded man. He will be remembered for his quiet strength, his unwavering loyalty, and the sense of safety and stability he gave to those who loved him. His legacy of service, love, and protection will live on in the lives of his family.
Though our hearts are broken, we take comfort in knowing that his strength remains within us and his love will continue to guide us.
A service to honor Raymond’s life will be held at Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden Wyoming Avenue, Wyoming, DE 19934 on Thursday May 14, 2026.
