Philip Lee VonVille, Jr., 70, of Houston, Delaware passed away on Sunday, May 17, 2026. Philip was born in Wilmington, Delaware to the late Philip L. VonVille Sr. and Doris M. Willis.
When Philip wasn't enjoying his passion of old western shows, cutting grass, or spending time with his wife he was telling tales of his life with anyone who would listen. He had a way of showing his love with his deep laugh and long stories (even if he promised he would make them short) of the many people and wild things he had been a part of. Like any true gem, he had many sides to him, Officer VonVille, from his time at the Department of Corrections, Co-owner of VonViille Trucking LLC, he was also known as simply Mr. Phil from all the children he took to and from school while working as a bus driver. But no matter where he was, he was still always known as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend to any stranger on the street. Never one to be forgotten, he made sure to pass his legacy to his children in the best way, his wild onery stories, from times as a child growing up milking cows, working on cars, and running the streets of Hartly, DE to times at the DOC where he spun stories about wild chases and pure chaos followed by that wonderous laugh. His heart was as large as his friend circle and you could always count on him for advice, even if he just made it up as he went. His final days were spent in the company of his wife, children, and grandchildren whom he loved very much. Though his passing was unexpected, we take comfort in knowing he is reunited with loved ones that he can now tell his long list of wild adventures too.
On a final note, his family wished to include some his favorite quotes so we may always remember his unique ability to make us smile and never give up.
" You got more excuses than carters got liver pills. "
" You want me to tell you a truth or a lie? "
" Listen to me, are you ready? "
" You done lost your cheese off your cracker "
Philip is survived by his wife of 42 years, Kathy VonVille; his 5 children, Leticia VonVille, Philip J. VonVille, Joshua VonVille (Taylor C.), Marykate VonVille (Chris J.) and Ethan Corkell; 15 grandchildren Colin, Dorian, Delaney, Joseph, Kimberly, Jordan, Cameron, Tobias, Annabelle, Jaxon, Gabrielle, Jackson, Charlotte, Alexander, and Emily. His 2 great children, Oliver, and soon to be born Elora; his 3 sisters, Linda VonVille, Donna Mitchell (Wayne), and Maureen Messina (John); numerous nieces and nephews as well as extended family members and friends.
A celebration of life for Philip is being planned by the family and will be announced at a later date.
