Peter Karras Obituary

Peter K. Karras Jr., born May 29, 1949, in Massachusetts, passed away February 28th 2025.  Peter was a man of dedication, service, and love for his family and community.

As a young man, Peter excelled in athletics, becoming a state cross-country champion in high school in Worcester, MA. Following his graduation, he answered the call to serve his country, joining the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. His courage and commitment earned him numerous accolades, including a commendation for saving a fellow airman’s life.

After completing his military service, Peter returned to Massachusetts to work alongside his father in the family rubbish business. His desire to continue serving others led him to become a firefighter with the Hyannis Fire Department. In 1973, he married the love of his life, Martha MacDowell of Cotuit, MA. They shared 51 years of marriage.

A few years into his tenure as a firefighter, Peter and his family relocated to Texas, where they lived for 11 years before eventually settling in Harrington, Delaware. He was an engaged and devoted father, coaching his children’s Little League teams and always supporting their endeavors.  He was active in his grand childrens lives and enjoyed spending time with them.

Peter is survived by his beloved wife, Martha; his sons David (HeeJin) Karras  and Jason (Christy) Karras and daughter Amanda (Scott) Breasure; and his cherished grandchildren, Cody Outten, Ethan Karras, Jasmine Karras, Nathan Outten, Jordyn Karras and Austin Karras. His legacy of service, love, and dedication will live on through his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of those he touched.
