Odessie Finazzo

5/23/1926 – 4/1/2021

Odessie (Deck/Dessie) was born to Robert and Clearndia Harvey in Jackson, Kentucky. Growing up on a small family farm during the depression shaped her view of the world, which she was always eager to share.  In her twenties she moved to New Jersey to live with her brother’s family. While working there as a waitress in a café she met her husband Carlo, a United States Airman, who was moonlighting as a cab driver. They were married for over 60 years until Carlo’s death in 2019.  As an Air Force family, they moved often with assignments in Florida, New Mexico, New York, Delaware, Okinawa, and the Philippines.  Deck always considered Delaware her home, living in both Wyoming and Milford.   She worked for many years as a cashier and a cook in the cafeteria of Caesar Rodney High School. She was an avid fan of the school’s sports teams and was proud to be a diehard democrat. She enjoyed quilting, playing slot machines, cooking, crabbing, canning, and shopping for antiques. We will all miss her spaghetti and meatballs. Her last few years were spent living in Georgia with her daughter, Susan and son-in-law, Scott.   Deck was predeceased by Carlo and is survived by her daughters Teresa and Susan, son-in-law Scott Malinconico, grandsons Jonathan and Brian, Brian’s wife, Kira, and great-grandchildren Grayson, Emerson and Sutton and numerous nieces and nephews. 

The family would like to thank Deck’s longtime caregivers, Sandra, Kadesha and Audrey and Longleaf Hospice who provided additional care in her final days.

Graveside service and interment will be on Thursday, April 15th at 10:00 am at the Sharon Hills Memorial Park, 2928 Sharon Hill Rd., Dover, DE.  Online condolences may be made via www.pippinfuneralhome.com
