Norman Burt Obituary

Norman William Henri Burt, 70, of Felton passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2025.  Norman was born to the late William and Carmen Burt in Saint Hubert, Quebec, Canada.

Norman is survived by his wife of 51 years, Christine Burt; his 2 children, Norman Burt II (Kathleen Newhouse) and Jamie Clawson (Travis); his 4 grandchildren, Aiden Clawson, Alex Clawson, Evan Burt and Nathaniel Burt; his brother, Wayne Burt (Deb); sisters, Linda Newton (Sean) and Sue Sheets; brothers in law, Edward Kaczka (Ada), Tony Kaczka and Gene Kaczka (Courtney); a host of nieces and nephews as well as extended family and friends.

Norman was proud of his Canadian heritage. When his family moved to the USA when he was a teenager, he was the lone member of the family to remain a Canadian citizen. Growing up in Southern California, young Norman enjoyed cars, motorcycles, racing, and rock music.

Norm joined the United States Air Force at the age of 17, following in his big brother Wayne’s footsteps. He was stationed at Kirtland AFB in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he worked on C-130 airplanes. While in NM, he met the love of his life, Christine Kaczka, from Dover, Delaware. Norm and Chris were married on June 29, 1973, when they were both 19 years old. They spent their early days exploring New Mexico, going to concerts, and enjoying the company of their many dear friends.

When Norm separated from the Air Force, and after attending his in-laws 25th anniversary celebration in Delaware, Norm and Chris made the decision to pack up and head back East to further explore his custom painting aspirations. Son Norman II was born in August 1978, with Jamie following in January 1983. Norm enjoyed raising his children, and participating in all of their Scouting, Dance, and band activities.

Norman was one of the early adopters of combining art and computers, and worked for years as the graphic artist for WBOC TV-16. Norman then transitioned to Delaware Technical Community College and worked as a digital media specialist until retirement in 2016.

Norm’s retirement years were spent traveling across the country on his motorcycle with Christine. He loved to tinker around the house, especially with woodworking, oil painting, watercolors, Air-brushing, and wood carving.

The absolute light of Norm’s life were his 4 grandsons. He found a way to bond with each one with their own unique interests. He spent his covid lockdown days online gaming with Aiden, Alex, and their military friends. He enjoyed his weekly facetime sessions with Evan and Nate, and visiting them in Seattle when he could.

A celebration of life for Norman will take place on Saturday February 15th, 2025, from 2-4 PM at the Mt. Plymouth AME Church Main Hall at 159 Plymouth Rd. Felton, DE 19943.  In lieu of flowers, the family recommends donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s research hospital.
