Mitchell M. Fisher, 86, born on December 26, 1939 passed away on April 7, 2026 at home in Greenwood, DE
Mitch is survived by his wife of 63 years Pearl E. Fisher; his daughter Denise S. Roberts (Fisher) and her husband David of Laurel, DE, his son Martin Fisher and his wife Leone of Delmar,MD; his brother Darwin B. Fisher and his wife Jackie of Harrington, DE; his brother Horace Maloney of Greenwood, DE; lifelong friends Jacob Wagner and his wife of Angela of Milford, DE.
Many years ago Mitch was fishing and went into the frigid bay. Jacob struggled to get Mitch back into the boat. Jake was in his teens. Jake saved Mitch’s life that day. We are forever indebted.
Mitch is preceded in death by his father Norman Fisher and his mother Francis Fisher; his brother Holland (Butch) Fisher of Preston, MD; and by Jacky Joseph Mc Corkendale (Joe) of Fayetteville, NC.
Mitch and Pearl owned numerous businesses together over the years. They owned Parkway Service Station in Greenwood DE and owned and bred Standardbred race horses for over forty years. Mitch drove and trained horses as well. They also owned and operated Ocean Fresh Seafood of Harrington, DE for twenty five years. With all the businesses they worked side by side to build a future. I guess it’s not work if you are doing it with the love of your life.
In the early 60’s Mitch worked in law enforcement in Ocean City MD as well as Virginia Beach, VA.. He also worked in various communities in Delaware. Mitch loved animals more than anything, especially his faithful dog Duchess. Since his illness he developed a love for wild birds. No matter the weather he kept multiple birdfeeders well stocked. His mobility became very difficult as his illness progressed. His love of Jesus became a mainstay in his life and in his final days it gave him great peace. Mitch was a proud American and a patriot. He was a member of Moose Lodge 534 of Harrington, Delaware for the last 44 years. He was a member of U.S.T.A. for over forty years.
Mitch put up a courageous battle with cancer since 2009, at times in remission and it just would not let go.
