Michael S. Campanella of Dover, Delaware, formerly of Bound Brook, New Jersey passed away on Thursday, May 5. He was 95 years old.
Michael was pre-deceased by his parents, Nicholas and Gertrude, and 8 siblings.
Michael moved to Bound Brook from Scranton, PA when he was nine years old. He attended St. Joseph Elementary school in Bound Brook and Bound Brook High School. He graduated in 1945.
During high school he worked at Brook Chevrolet, Bound Brook, NJ as a part time Mechanics Helper.
He enlisted in the United States Navy from January 1945 to August 1946 and served on the USS Goshen in the South Pacific during WWII. He returned to his Bound Brook home after an honorable discharge and became a full time mechanic at Brook Chevrolet. During his service he earned the following medals: American Theatre, Victory, Asiatic-Pacific, Occupation and SubAuthBuPers.
He met the love of his life, Veronica Shurin, in June of 1947. They were engaged in December of 1947 and married in June of 1948. They had two daughters; Janis and Joan.
Michael held the position of Parts Manager, at Brook Chevrolet, Bound Brook, NJ from 1950 to 1956. From 1956 to 1958 he was a salesman for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company in Somerville, NJ. He was promoted to Sales Manager for Met Life in 1958 and remained there until 1972. After leaving Met Life he became a salesman for Dooley Chevrolet in Somerville, NJ from 1972 to 1976. In April of 1976 he became a salesman for Fennessey Buick in Somerville, NJ. He completed his career at Fennessey Buick as Sales Manager in 1996.
In 1956 Michael joined the America Hose & Engine Company #2 in Bound Brook, NJ. He was a volunteer fire fighter for 50+ years where he answered his last call as Chief Engineer. He became a member of the Bound Brook Exempt Fireman’s Association
Michael was a member of the American Legion Post 63 in Bound Brook, NJ.
Michael was an avid auto mechanic as well as a race car enthusiast.
Michael leaves behind to cherish his memories his wife of 73 years, Veronica Shurin Campanella; His daughters Janis Pypniowski (Stan) of NJ and Joan Lobby (Raymond) of Delaware; his grandchildren Heather (Lobby) Cruz (Ken Hackett) of Delaware, Justin Pypniowski (Susie), and Stephanie (Pypniowski) Walters (Darren) of VA as well as his great grandchildren Alexa Cruz, Kenny and Emily Hackett, Ava and Dillon Pypniowski and Julia Walters.
Services will be held privately.
