Merlyn Teckla (Sylvestre-Williams) Bailey

     Merlyn Teckla Bailey passed away peacefully on February 9th, 2026 at the age of 80.

     Merlyn was born on June 4, 1945 at 4A O'Brien Place, Woodbrook, Trinidad and Tobago, to the late Charles and Magareita Sylvestre-Williams. She is preceded in death by her parents, aforementioned, her elder siblings Janet Parks, Clarence Sylvestre-Williams, Jasmine (Canada), Petal de Briceno (Venezuela), and younger siblings Cecile Skinner (USA) and David Sylvestre-Williams.

     As a young girl, Merlyn grew up at 12 Gallus St, Woodbrook, Trinidad and Tobago. She was lively girl who was an exceptional field hockey player. Merlyn married her husband, Roderick Bailey, in 1965. They moved to St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, in 1967 with their young son, Duane, where they later had their sons Roderick Jr. and Anthony. Soon after beginning their life in St. Croix, Merlyn began working as a bank clerk with Scotia Bank and Bank of America in 1968, until 1973. She continued to make a successful career in the insurance industry. An accomplished insurance claims underwriter, her career culminated in her work at Young Clark Insurance and Marshall and Sterling Insurance from 1974 until retiring in 2009. She then moved to Delaware, where she lived the rest of her life.

     Merlyn leaves to cherish her loving memory her three sons: Duane Bailey of Delaware, Roderick Bailey Jr. of Delaware, and Anthony Bailey of Texas; her eleven grandchildren: LaMesha, Malcolm, NyQue, NyQuela, Emilia, Oscar, Anthony Jr, Ariana, Miles, Brandy, and Te’Shaun; her four great grandchildren: DeMari, SuNee, Nayeli, and Saiyuri; her elder sister Margaret Goines (USA) and younger brothers Steve Sylvestre-Williams (UK) and Edward Sylvestre-Williams; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dearest friends.

     A funeral service will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, February 28, 2026 at the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden Wyoming Avenue, Wyoming, DE 19934 where there will be a viewing from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M.
