Martha Jean (Evans) Barnes

Martha Barnes (Jean) age 69 passed away peacefully at home on April 24, 2023 from ongoing health concerns including cardiac issues. She was born on June 18, 1953 in Katanning PA to James and Martha Evans II. 

Jean was a carnival worker for many years where she knew how to spin cotton candy and dip candy apples like an art. After she followed her father’s trademark to open a business where she did the book record and bookkeeping for over 20 years. 

Jean had a lifelong friend named Grace and they would sit together for hours making candies and other sweets and would play games. Once Grace passed away, Jean held tight to their memories they shared. During her health battles Jean gained a friend to the end, Helen. Jean and Helen would sit and talk and laugh for hours. Helen helped care for Jean along with her daughters until the end. 

Jean is survived by her daughter Alison and her son in-law Hector Jusino, her two step daughters Dorothy and her husband Joe Lee, and Sherri and Delron Clark and many brothers and sisters. She is also survived by her multitude of grandchildren James, Abigail, Isabella, Deejay, Aiden, Rylee and Savannah. Many others call Jean Amma (Grandma). She loved all of the children in her family and extended family and held a special place in her heart. 

Memorial Services will be held at Dover World Outreach, 3941 W Denneys Road Dover, DE 19904, On Saturday May 6th. From 3-4 pm will be a viewing/visitation. The service will begin at 4 pm. 

The family is accepting flowers for her service, but also asks that donations be made in honor of Jean to the American Heart Association.
