Mark Burris Obituary

     Mark Anthony Burris, 59, of Lincoln, made a peaceful transition on July 28, 2020  while at  home with his daughter Markita Burris and grandchildren.  Mark was preceded in death by, his maternal and paternal grandparents, his mother Doris M. Burris (Browne), brother Donald L. Burris, and one nephew Jermaine Caine.

     Mark began his spiritual journey at  Bibleway Temple Church of God in Christ, Dover, DE. Mark sang in the Sunshine Band and the Youth Choirs. Later to deepen his spiritual walk he gave his life back to Christ at Bible Church of God under the leadership of Pastor Lee Miller of Dover, DE.  He later attended The Greater Life Christian Church of Star Hill, DE and Crossroad Christian Church of Dover, DE.  Mark often expressed  his love for Christ by sharing his faith with others he met. Mark attended Caesar Rodney School District.  Mark loved to cook and was employed as the  lead  Captain John’s Restaurant of Dover, DE for several years.  Later Mark obtained employment at  ILC in Frederica, DE for 10 years.  Mark had a passion for automobiles and was a skilled mechanic at M. Burris and Sons for which is a family owned business.  Mark being the workaholic he was worked for AQR in Middletown, DE for five years. Earlier in life Mark met and married Chris Lovett in 1984, from that union one child was born Markita A. Burris, his little Muffin. Mark enjoyed bowling, the beach and spending time with his grandchildren.  Besides his children and grandchildren many called him Pop Pop or Pops.  Mark always wore a smile  and would offer his help to anyone who needed it.  He had a kind gentle spirit for those that knew him.  He was always willing to share whatever he had.  His outlook was always was always God will give it back to me, "I am Blessed".

      Mark is survived by his wife of 12 years, Peggy L. (Mifflin) Burris; ten children: six daughters: Kemmisha Burris, Markita Burris (Karl), Shawanda Johnson (Keith), Josephine El-Shabazz, Christina Lovett, Jessica Mifflin; four sons: Mark Lee, Nicholas Terrell, Charleston Lovett, Lloyd Mifflin; a nephew he treated like a son Ronald L. Burris, Jr. and Godson Damonta' J. Twyman, a special son Chris Manlove (Tunisia), his father Myrtle Burris, Jr. (Joan), two sisters Mary Ann Burris, Yolanda Draine; seven brothers: Myrtle Burris, 3rd (Jean). Houston Burris (Patricia), J.B. Burris (Caroline), Edward Burris (Suzette), Roger Burris, Caleb Burris, and Ronald Burris; eight sister in laws; six brother-in-laws; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and special loved ones that impacted his life: Kumuel Butler, Irma Elmandorf, Tracey, Chris Lovett, John Harris, Jr. aka "Lucky" (Sabrina), Keith Twyman (Michelle), Mike Harris, Jeffrey Winchester (Kate), Kevin Gauntt (Dana) and extended nieces, nephews and grandchildren.

      There will be a viewing from 10:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. Friday, August 7, 2020 at Bibleway Temple Church of God in Christ, 54 Kirkwood Street, Dover, DE  19904. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the funeral home to assist with expenses. Online condolences may be made via www.pippinfuneralhome.com.
