Mamerto Mangle, Jr.

Mamerto “Mert” Mangle, Jr., 68, of Dover, Delaware, passed away on July 2, 2026.

Born and raised in Jersey City, New Jersey, Mamerto was deeply connected to both New Jersey and New York, where he spent most of his life before retiring and relocating to Delaware.

From music to vintage bicycles, he immersed himself in the things that interested him most and could have easily been a talk-show host or podcast host. In his prime, he was known for his movie-star good looks, active lifestyle, and many hobbies, including swimming, kayaking, fishing, sailing, playing music, watching movies and music videos, cooking.

He served in the United States Air Force before dedicating 35 years to the United States Postal Service. Even after he stopped selling bicycles at flea markets on the weekends w/ his wife, he continued to enjoy repairing and tuning his own bicycles as well as bicycles for others. Later in life, his hobbies also included ballroom dancing with his wife and friends in Jersey City. He also enjoyed visiting thrift stores, searching for unique finds and maintaining his lawn. Junior always believed in having the right tool for the right job and took pride in keeping the proper tools for every task.

With his generosity, thoughtfulness, and unmistakable Jersey-Brooklyn accent, Mamerto was a “walking encyclopedia conversationalist” who could start a conversation with literally anyone and seamlessly segue into nearly any topic under the sun for hours on end. His vast knowledge and stories about his interests covered everything from music and food to movies, history, pop culture, and the world around him. One of his favorite sayings was, “Righteous!”

Music was always a major part of Mamerto’s life. He had a natural ear for music and played acoustic guitar, electric guitar, bass guitar, piano, ukulele, even the harmonica and accordion, while also enjoying singing on rare occasions. He found joy in exploring and sharing the many genres of music he loved.

If you knew Mert, you knew how much he loved his bicycles - acquiring, repairing, tuning, and selling vintage bicycles at flea markets throughout New Jersey and New York. JR New York and New Jersey like the back of his hand. You never had to ask where the best food was—he would already be telling you. Family and friends deemed him the designated tour guide in these areas and he would happily oblige - exploring with him because he enjoyed the journey just as much as the destination. He always knew where the authentic restaurants, hidden gems, and the stories behind them and warned against the tourist traps. 

Known to many as “Mert” and “J.R.,” he was preceded in death by his parents, Mamerto Mangle, Sr. and Celedonia and his brother, Ricky. He is survived by his wife, Olfea Mangle; his children, Jessica and Vincent; his siblings, Virginia, Eddie, Mary, and Monica; and his beloved dogs, Prince, Homie, and Peanut.

He leaves behind family, pets, friends, neighbors, and others who will remember his unique personality and the conversations that made him who he was. May he rest in peace, and may his memory be a blessing to those who loved him.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at 2736 Forrest Ave., Dover, DE 19904.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family to assist with funeral expenses and honor Mamerto’s memory. The family is sincerely grateful for your love, support, and generosity during this difficult time.
