Mae Marvel Obituary

     Mae Vivian Marvel, 85, of Magnolia died suddenly on March 26, 2024. Born in W. Manayunk, PA, she was the daughter of the late Myrtle Lilly (Friedrich) and Orville Rosevelt Halliday.

     Mrs. Marvel was a waitress with the Smyrna Diner for over 30 years.  She was then a manager of the Tastee Freeze in Smyrna for about five years.  Lastly, she was a hostess for Sam’s Club in Salisbury for about 10 years.  Since 2007, she was a member of the South Bowers Auxiliary.

     Mrs. Marvel is survived by her husband of 7 years, Edward L. Marvel; five children:  Alvin B. Atkinson and his wife Wanda of Smyrna, Norma A. Atkinson of Milford, Irene Gordon of New Castle, Pearl Norman and her husband Carl of Dover and Vernard Atkinson of Dover; her step children: Karen Ridgley and her husband Doug of Dover, Randy Marvel and his wife Marianne of Marydel, DE and Bobby Marvel of Pennsylvania; 17 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of almost 50 years, Alvin B. Atkinson; her step son Rodney Marvel, her brothers Harry and Orville; and her four sisters: Myrtle, Ethel, Doris and Betty.

     A Celebration of Life will be from 2:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. Saturday, April 6, 2024 at South Bowers Fire Company, 57 Scotts Corner Road, Milford, DE  19963.  Burial will be private.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to South Bowers Auxiliary at the above address.
