Linda Burkett Obituary

Linda Jane Twigg Burkett, 69, of Middletown, DE, died on March 21, 2024, after a long struggle with Parkinson’s.

Born August 17, 1954, in Wilmington, Delaware, Linda attended Mt. Pleasant HS and graduated from the University of Delaware with a B.A. in Special Education.  A devoted and creative teacher, she taught for 35 years in Delaware public schools.  She and her husband, Ron Burkett, raised their two wonderful children, Greg Burkett and Laura Burkett Fox, in Smyrna and Wilmington, with a fun break in Dallas, Texas.

Linda loved needlecrafts and was a whiz at knitting, crocheting, and needlepoint, creating so many beautiful gifts.  The whole family looked forward to yearly vacations in Orlando, Florida, at their Time-share, which became even more fun with the arrival of grandchildren Russell and Raegan Fox, and Holden Burkett.

In retirement, Linda and Ron moved to a Dell Webb over-55 community near Charleston, SC, where she happily enjoyed many new friends, water aerobics, and South Carolina seafood.  Her difficulties with Parkinson’s brought them back to Delaware to be close to family.  The daughter of Charles and Doris Twigg, of Wilmington, in addition to her beloved husband, children and grandchildren, Linda is survived by son-in-law Stuart Fox; son Greg’s partner Tess Dixon; her sister, Barbara Twigg, of Falls Church, VA; nephews Jackson Lehr and Luke Rabin and their children Aerin, Jason, and Vera; cousin Bill Flanagan in Pittsburgh; and paternal family in Snow Hill, MD, including her aunt, Laura Belle Figgs, and cousin Brenda Short.  Never without a dog and a cat, Linda loved her Roxy and Foxy.
