On Monday, December 28, 2020, Laura Sue Bailey “Momma Laura,” passed away peacefully at the age of 86 at Bayhealth Hospital, Sussex Campus in Milford, DE. She was a loving mother, grandmother, cousin, aunt and friend.
Laura was born on August 9, 1934 to the late Lanford Bailey and Mary Trotman Bailey from Currituck, North Carolina and was the youngest of five children. She received her early education at Central Elementary School in Currituck, North Carolina. Laura had such a sweet, loving soul. To know her was to love her. She was a strong woman who raised a beautiful family on her own, all the way down to the great-grands. She showed love to any and everyone who crossed her path. Laura will be deeply missed by many. She was the mother of the church and a faithful servant of God at Word of Life Community Church, until her health began to fail.
Laura was preceded in death by her son Clarence Bailey, Jr.; sisters Katie Young and Lizzie Bailey; brothers Thurman Bailey and Ulysses Bailey.
She is survived by four children, daughter Cynthia Bailey of Harrington, DE; sons Lorenza Bailey of Milford, DE, Larry Bailey of Harrington, DE and Darryl Bailey of Lincoln, DE, as well as godson Leroy McPherson of Lincoln, DE. She was a loving grandmother to nineteen grandchildren, Abdula Drummond, Jr., Marvin Bailey (Latoya) Keondra Curry, Abdula Drummond, Sr., Latonya Drummond, Yashmen Hood, Cachet Parker, Geneedra Bailey, Keeva Dennis, Shemeka Summers, Chelsea Bailey, Chasady Bailey, Kevin Hardy, Keisha Hardy, Calvin Hardy, Sherwood Belfield, Darryl Duffy, Marvin Deshields and Kristen Boone. Laura had sixty-three great-grands and four great-great grands. She also leaves behind a special cousin Margarit Jones of Elizabeth City, NC and a special sister-in-law, Mary Bailey of Wilmington, DE, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Services will be January 16, 2021 from 11:00-1:00 at the Philadelphia Pentecostal Holiness Church, 13724 S. Old State Road, Ellendale, DE. Current COVID-19 restrictions will be in place, including social distancing and masks.
