John Charles Mathews, 73, of Dover, Delaware passed away on Saturday August 9, 2025 in Lady Lake, Florida.
John was born June 24, 1952 in Milford, Massachusetts. He was the son of the late Donald Norbit Mathews and Margaret (Bowen) Mathews. His father was in the Navy for 22 years. John was in the United Force Air Force from 1972 to 1973 where he had an honorable discharge.
John moved to Dover, Delaware from Milford, Massachusetts in 1964, where his father got a job at a new General Foods Factory in Dover. Like father, like son, John began working at General Foods later known as Kraft Foods for 32 years.
John married the love of his life, Shirley May (Hatcher) Mathews on November 22, 1975. They were married 49 years. He leaves many wonderful memories to his two sons Christopher Michael Mathews and his wife Katie; Keith Wayne Mathews and his wife Kelly; a sister Donna (Mathews) Murphy; two granddaughters, Alicia and Mercedes and one grandson, Aiden.
John loved going to his son’s little league games and taking them to major league baseball games. He was a faithful Philadelphia Phillies fan. He also enjoyed day trips to shopping malls and loved the beach. After retirement John and his wife Shirley moved down the Villages in Lady Lake Florida where they enjoyed the warmer weather.
Funeral services will 10:30 A.M. Thursday August 28, 2025 at the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden Wyoming Avenue, Wyoming, DE 19934 where friends may visit with the family from 9:30 A.M. until 10:30 A.M. Thursday. Burial will follow in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.
