Joan Wallace Obituary

Joan Susan Wallace, the beloved matriarch of the family, passed away, peacefully at home with her family, on June 15, 2026, at the age of 83. Joan was born on January 6, 1943, in Philadelphia, PA and lived a life dedicated to her family and friends.

Joan was born as the first of six siblings. At the age of 15, she became the primary caregiver for them. She took the responsibility very seriously and cherished it immensely.

At the age of 18, Joan married the love of her life, John “Barn” Henry Wallace and together they had 3 children, John, Brian, and Shawn. They had a one of a kind marriage, one that most people strive for. They loved taking day trips with their boys, enjoyed traveling to Wildwood, and made some of their best memories on their trips to Peddler’s Village. Joan and Barn had a marriage that made others envious. They truly enjoyed and cherished every moment they spent together and she has missed him dearly every single day since he passed. Joan’s most important role in life was being an excellent wife and mother. While Joan did hold various roles over the years, there was nothing that brought her more happiness than being able to be home when her boys got home from school each day, attending their sporting events, and simply being a mother that they could count on. Family was the most important thing in Joan’s life.

In addition to being the matriarch of the family and all that came with it, she enjoyed reading and went to the local library often. She loved to crochet, a skill that she passed down to her granddaughters by teaching them herself. She loved to write and her John encouraged it so much that she took a class at her local college in her 40s. Joan had many friends throughout her life and those relationships were quite important to her. She enjoyed spending time and making memories with her friends as well.

Joan is preceded in death by her loving husband, John Wallace, her parents, John and Florence (Gleason) Fritz, her son, John Wallace, and her siblings, Edward “Eddie” Fritz, Margaret “Marge” Fritz, John “Jack” Fritz, and her brother-in-law, John Kronberger.

She is survived by her two sons, Brian Wallace (Joelle) and Shawn Wallace (Ashley). Her grandchildren, Johnny Wallace, Amber Carroll (Dan), Heather Tran (Abraham), Brianna Wallace, Madeline Wallace, and Emelia Wallace. Her great-grandchildren, Daniel, Declan, Maeve, Avalon, and Elowyn. She is also survived by her siblings, Florence “Floss” Kronberger and Karl Fritz Sr (Rene), sister-in-law, Jane Anne Fritz, and countless nieces and nephews.

Joan’s legacy will be celebrated on June 30, 2026, at Resurrection of Our Lord Church, 2000 Shelmire Ave, Philadelphia, PA. Calling hours will be from 10:00am-11:00am with a memorial service to follow.
