Jeanette M Gottorf (Milford, DE) passed away peacefully at her home on February 16, 2025 at the age of 93. Jeanette was born on January 8, 1932 in Goldsboro, Maryland. She grew up on farms near Sandtown, Wyoming, and Magnolia, Delaware and often talked about her early farm life milking cows. She was an avid Phillies fan and rarely missed watching a game.
Jeanette is predeceased by her husband, Francis “Teak” Gottorf; her parents, Earl and Naomi Melvin, brother Bill Melvin, sister and best friend, Doris Knight. Jeanette graduated from Caesar Rodney High School in 1949 where she and Doris excelled in basketball and softball. She was married to Teaky shortly after graduation. Jeanette was a homemaker who worked briefly for the State of Delaware.
She is survived by her daughters: Janet Ford of Florence, SC and Joyce (Daniel) LeBright of Milford, DE; Grandchildren Joseph (Sara) LeBright, Niecy (Craig) Roberts, and Jennifer (Jay) Worrall; Great-Grandchildren Nicolas Worrall, Christopher Worrall, Greysen Lebright, and Avery LeBright. She is also survived by nephews: Gary Melvin, Dale Melvin, Bob Knight, Ron Knight, and niece Linda Thomas. Jeanette’s greatest joy in life was her family and she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
A private memorial service will be held by the family. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to be sent to Delaware Meals on Wheels or Delaware Hospice.
