Janice Pettyjohn Obituary

Janice Marie Pettyjohn, affectionately known as a mother, sister, and aunt to many, was born on March 22, 1944, in Salisbury, Maryland. She departed life on Saturday, March 9, 2024, in Milford Delaware surrounded by loved ones.

She was a devoted wife to her husband of 62 years, John (John Boy) Pettyjohn, Sr. who passed in September of 2022, who loved her deeply until his final days.

Janice grew up in Salisbury, Maryland. Later in life, she resided in Mount Holly, New Jersey before ultimately landing in Milford Delaware.

For many years she worked at Holly Center for the disabled and Wicomico Nursing Home both located in Salisbury Maryland for many years before retiring.

She was known to many as being the firm-loving type; a trait that many loved and will forever remember her by. Most often you could find her sitting comfortably in her recliner watching her soaps. One thing for sure and two things for certain, everyone knew to keep quiet while her soaps were on, even in her old age. While relaxing and enjoying the drama on the television, you could bet that you would find her draped from head to toe in jewelry often gifted to her by her late husband and middle son; John. She had a memory, that many would envy, and could point out to anyone from the array of pictures that engulfed their home- memories that we know she took with her when God called on her. Even while she resided in Milford Center Nursing Home, her grandchildren would often take pictures of her, and with her, and the smile that came as a result of those pictures could light up the world.

She was preceded in death by her sons Victor Thomas Sr., and Desmond Pettyjohn; her mother, Catherine Coulbourn; her father Isaac Coulbourn Sr., sisters; Betty Tilgham, and brothers; Issac Coulbourn Jr., and Eugene Coulbourn. She will be sadly missed by her sons John Pettyjohn (Charlene) and Keith Pettyjohn (Katie), in-laws, Estheleta Price, Curtis Dix, and Patsy Kellam, Willard B. Allen, 10 grandkids, 10 great kids, and 2 great grandchildren.

She will also be missed immensely by her last living sibling, Patsy Miles (Demetrius), and an array of nieces, nephews, and friends.

A funeral service will be 12:00 P.M. Friday, March 22, 2024 at the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden Wyoming Avenue, Wyoming, DE  19934 where there will be a viewing from 10:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M.
