Obituary

Jane McCoy Broadbooks of Dover, DE died on September 2, 2023. She was born December 18, 1928 in Battle Creek, Iowa, the daughter of Lester and Bernice (Trindle) McCoy. She was a resident of many states, most notably Iowa, Michigan, Illinois, California, Colorado, and most recently, Delaware. Jane married Harold Eugene Broadbooks on June 4, 1950 in Ada, OK; they were married for 58 years. Jane and Harold along with their six children traveled extensively throughout the United States and then took many trips overseas after they both retired. Jane was a graduate of the University of Michigan and earned a Master’s degree in Mathematics from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. Jane was a long-time member of the First Unitarian Church of Alton, Illinois and served for many years as the organist/pianist and music director. She taught math at the high school and college levels for over 40 years until her retirement in 1997. She was devoted to her family and was an accomplished pianist, an avid reader, and enjoyed playing bridge, knitting, needlepoint, quilting, and puzzles of all types. 

Survivors include her six children, Daniel (Barbara) Broadbooks of Pueblo West, CO, John Broadbooks of Montrose, CO, Wendy (Jack) Pickett of Dover, DE, Thomas (Susan) Broadbooks of Des Moines, IA, Roy (Brenda) Broadbooks of Cedaredge, CO, Nancy Gasperson of Normal, IL, seven grandchildren – Jason (Shanna) Peebles of Wood River, IL, Erin Gasperson of Bloomington, IL, Lisa (Fintan) Gorman of San Francisco, CA, Ross (Kristin) Broadbooks of St. Paul, MN, Brian (Grace) O’Connell of Pittsburgh, PA, Shanna Gasperson of Ypsilanti, MI, and Ella Broadbooks of Des Moines, IA, five great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her husband Harold Broadbooks, sister Nancy McCoy Fisher, and brother John Graham McCoy.
