James (Jim) Frederick Sullivan, 86 and affectionally known as “Sully”, of Waverly, NY, left us on February 22nd, 2025 due to natural causes after a long, honorable, and fulfilling life.
Jim was born on August 17th, 1938 to Donald and Elizabeth Sullivan in Sayre, Pennsylvania. After graduating from Waverly High School in 1957, Jim entered the United States Air Force, proudly serving as an active-duty airman from 1958 until 1962, and then with the USAF Reserves from 1962-1964, and was stationed primarily at Plattsburgh Air Force Base in Plattsburgh, NY.
Upon his Honorable Discharge from the Air Force, Jim began his career with Ingersoll Rand, where he worked for close to 4 decades, retiring in 1998 as a Foreman in the Shipping Department. Additionally, Jim positively impacted hundreds of youths in Waverly, NY through coaching Little League baseball, Babe Ruth baseball, and Small Fry football.
Jim was a lifelong sports fan, a member of the Catholic Church, an avid hunter, and a devoted follower of his beloved Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the New York Mets. His ability to remember former players, coaches, and historical sporting events was truly remarkable. Additionally, he strongly supported and followed his children and grandchildren throughout their personal lives and athletic careers. Upon retirement, Jim became an avid golfer and was frequently found on the tee boxes and putting greens of Tomasso’s Golf Course in Waverly, NY. In his later years, Jim moved to Dover, Delaware to be closer to family, where he made several new friends at State Street Assisted Living. Simply put, Jim lived his best life.
Jim was predeceased by his parents, Donald and Elizabeth Sullivan, his first wife, Patricia (Dugan) Sullivan, his cousin, Bonnie Hakes, his lifelong best friend, Leland Hakes, and his nephew, Shaun Sutton. He is survived by his sisters, Patricia Sampson and Deborah Fait (Ed), brother, Tom Sullivan, daughter, Mary Tyndall (Mike), son Scott Sullivan, five adored grandchildren: Julianna Tyndall, Jessica Tyndall, Jonathan Tyndall, Madison Sullivan, Caeli Sullivan, and several other beloved nieces and nephews.
In honor of his final wishes, services will be private and the family will gather to honor and memorialize Jim and celebrate his life at a later date.
