James E. Richard, age 90, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, November 24, 2024. Born on a farm in Templeville, MD, son of the late Anna and Truman Richard. He was one of 13 children, all deceased but 1 sister, Dorothy Richard Shahan of Dover, DE.
He served his country in the Maryland Army National Guard with a Honorable Discharge as a Corporal in 1955 and again as a Sergeant in 1958 and as a Reservist in 1960.
Jim retired from Southern States Petroleum after 43 years.
He enjoyed camping with his wife Betty of 41 years, and they did a lot of traveling after retirement. He belonged to “Delmarva Happy Campers Club” and Modern Maturity Center of Dover where he enjoyed foin to lunch until his health started to decline. He was an advid Orioles fan and enjoyed watching TV with his beloved cat, Mickey in his lap.
Besides his sister Dorothy and his wife Betty, he is survived by his children, Terri Denny (Steve), Alan Richard (Terri), Dave Richard, Andy Richard (Dawn) and Mike Richard (Connie); 2 step daughets, Debbie Smith (Smitty) and Patty Lamb; 6 grandchildren, Amy, Stephanie (AJ), Amber (Jerry), Kevin (Mindy), Brandon (Paula), Caroline (Chase) and 2 Step-grandchildren, Crystal (Brendon) and Brian Tuxward; 6 step-grandchildren, Ryan Clough (Kim), Nicole and Lauren Legar, Heather Lamb, Kimberly Lamb (Kosta) and Rachel Lamb (Bill); many great-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; also surviving is the mother of his children, Phyllis Tarburton of Dover, DE.
A funeral service for James will take place on December 2, 2024 at 11:00am at Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave. Wyoming, DE 19934. The family will receive friends one hour prior. Burial will follow the service at Sharon Hills Memorial Park.
