James Matthew “Mr. Ambassador” Chapman, 82, of Dover went Home to be with the Lord on March 19, 2021 surrounded by his family.
“Mr. Ambassador” was born in Key West, Florida on February 21, 1939, son of the late Jerline (Winters) Edwards and Son Chapman. Mr. Chapman received his education at Douglas High School in Key West, Florida. After high school, he began working in the construction industry, most of that time spent with Sunset Key Island. He had also worked for Fred Shack in Houston, Delaware.
“Mr. Ambassador” was a former member of Cornish Memorial Church in Key West, where he enjoyed singing in the choir and he thought he was the best singer in the choir. He enjoyed riding his bicycle and listening to music on the back of it, eventually being known as “The Ambassador”, as he performed weddings, birthday parties and special events on his bicycle. He loved the Bible, especially speaking about Yahweh. He always had a story to tell about the Bible. He loved people and people loved him. He will be missed by all.
“Mr. Ambassador is survived by his wife of 45 years, Kim (Jarrett) Chapman; his sons James Chapman, Sr., Kenny Chapman, Michael Jarrett, Johnnie Morris and Antonio Chapman; his daughters: Odessa Artis, D’Ameka Chapman, Ebony Chapman and Korryne Chapman; his brothers: Eugene Edwards (Fancina), Alphonso Edwards (Charlina); his sisters Carolyn Edwards and Linda Polk (Don); his aunt Gladys Hall; numerous grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren; and his best friends Tim and Robbie.
“Mr. Ambassador” was preceded in death by his daughter, Ursula Robinson; his brothers, Elmer Clayton Edwards and Louis Edwards; his sister Yvonne Edwards; several aunts and uncles that just passed that he is going to join. He was preceded in death by his favorite chicken, Buddy.
A funeral service will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, April 3, 2021 at the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden Wyoming Avenue, Wyoming, DE 19934 where there will be a viewing from 9:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. Saturday. Burial will follow in Williamsville Cemetery. COVID-19 protocol will be in effect. No more than 50 persons in the funeral home at once.
