James Brown, Jr. Obituary

James A. Brown Jr. "Jimmy", 58, of Dover passed away on March 21, 2025 at Kent General Hospital from a long time battle with cancer.

He was born on January 25, 1967 in Dover, Delaware, son of Sandra L. Brown and James A. Brown, Sr. of Dover Delaware.

Jimmy graduated from Caesar Rodney High School in 1986 where he was a star football player proudly wearing the number 32. He also ran track & played baseball as well as weightlifting competitions. With his school, he assisted with the special Olympics and was an award-winning member of the industrial arts club. He also enjoyed racing his BMX bike. He worked at Morton Buildings, Kent County Parks & Recreation as well as a pool company where he serviced and maintained many commercial pools, and most recently was owner of One Shot Wood Works, making handmade items to sell at craft shows with his daughter Shelbi.

He lived in Felton before getting sick at which time he moved home with his mom and dad in Dover.

Jimmy enjoyed being with his family especially his daughter Shelbi and grandsons Colt, Brantley, Maverick and Carter. They were his absolute pride and joy. He enjoyed wood working, fishing, hunting and simply being outdoors. He was a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan, lover of country music, especially Colt Ford. Jimmy loved his boxer dogs Jake & then Petra who is undoubtedly waiting for him on rainbow bridge. In his younger years, he was given the nickname "the bull". In later years, he earned the nickname "One Shot" for his impeccable aiming skills when hunting. Jimmy was a tough cookie. If you asked him why he did something, his favorite line was "because I’m Jim Brown" or "because Jim Brown said so." In the early 2000’s, Jimmy was in an all but fatal car accident where he was pronounced deceased several times suffering a broken neck and a brain injury. He had to re-learn everything from the ground up once waking from his coma, but he did it. He defied the odds and did the impossible. He not only survived, but lived. His daughter Shelbi was always by his side during this long period of time and declared her daddy as her superman. Shelbi has always looked up to, loved and been proud to call Jimmy her dad.

One of Shelbi's favorite memory with her dad Jimmy was when she was 15 years old he took her out on a backroad at midnight in the snow driving his purple Ford Ranger to teach her how to drive in preparation for her getting her driver’s license. He told her that anyone could drive on a clear sunny day. His daughter was going to learn to drive the "right way". Shelbi says this is one of her favorite memories because while she was nervous at the time she’s now easily one of the most confident drivers on the road in wind, rain or snow and she credits her dad for teaching her the way he did.

He is survived by his daughter Shelbi H. Brown, son-in-law Steven A. Dietrich and their children Brantley, Colt, Carter and Maverick of Laurel, his parents Sandra L. Brown and James A. Brown Sr. or Dover. his sister Regina D Wood, brother-in-law Douglas Wood, nephew Robert Wood with fiancé Kat Haldeman and their son William of Felton, his aunt Robin Chandler and uncle Gilbert Chandler along with their son Craig Chandler of Camden, his aunt Vickie Malinalsky and uncle Mike Malinalsky along with their daughter Tammy Dejesus & her husband Victor Dejesus and cousin Rebecca L. Palicka.

He is proceeded in death by his grandparents Richard M. Hall & Helena V. Hall, Craig W. Brown and Vira E Brown and his aunt Kricket D Hall.
