Jacob Yoder Obituary

Jacob D Yoder, of Hartly, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at his home in Hartly, surrounded by his family. He endured a lengthy battle of aphasia and dementia. He was 83.

Jacob was born into the old order Amish on July 16, 1940, in Holmes County Ohio to the late, Dan E & Lydia R(Troyer) Yoder.  The family moved to Delaware in 1954.

He met the love of his life to whom he was married over 55 years, Cora-Marie (Hutchins) Yoder, who he afforded center stage since their meeting. He started work at Haas’s Family Butcher Shop, later serving two years in the Army Reserves. He worked over 37.5 years at General Foods, now Kraft in Dover, first in Chocolate, then in Jell-O food processing.

Family was truly the center of Jacob’s life, staying close to his Amish roots, a quiet and gentle man, he held close to Christian beliefs, the simplicity of life, always centered around his family. He enjoyed woodworking, puzzles, and gardening, known for his watermelons, strawberries, yellow squash, green peppers, and lima beans.  He always planted a large garden. His red Ford 601 Work master tractor was a cherished find, which he was sure to paint all his implements to match as they too had to be his favorite color, red!

He moved to his farm after retiring where he raised goats, miniature horses, and Herefords.

Jacob volunteered for over 25 years, with Delaware Hospice. He was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church, of Marydel, where he greeted the congregation at the door with a warm smile, and handshake.

Family held center stage as stated above. Jacob was a devoted husband, father, pop-pop, brother, uncle, Godfather, and friend.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Christian, Samuel, and Emanuel, a sister Amanda, his wife Cora-Marie, his daughter Donna who held the highly esteemed title of “daddy’s little girl”, and God-daughter Jaime Stevens.

Jacob is survived by his son, Larry Yoder & wife, Bonnie, of Hartly; his sisters, Lizzie Yoder of Dover DE, Fannie Yoder of Marion KY, Verna Beachy of Pleasantville TN, Anna Gingerich of Clark MO, Katie Gingerich of Reeseville WI, and Rachel Gingerich of Milton IA; his brothers Rudy Yoder of Marydel DE, and Mose Yoder of Camden DE. He is also survived by his four grandchildren, Ryan Yoder, Scott and Jake Purcell; and Taylor Oakley (Purcell) & husband, Joseph; godchildren, Eric Fendt & wife, Cheryl; Joseph Brown & wife, Debbie; Christopher Leslie & fiancé, Elizabeth; and Lisa Falkner & husband, Mark.

The family wishes to extend a heartfelt Thank You, to the Doctors, Nurses, and other employees of Accent Care Hospice, for his care after receiving an end-of-life prognosis.  A warm thank you, to his neighbors, the Troyers, for being there, and providing much needed support through the years.  Also thank you to the Marydel & Hartly Fire Companies and Delaware Hospice for their kindness, service, and compassion to the family through the years, as well.

Funeral Services will take place at 12:00 pm, Wednesday March 27, 2024, in Pippin Funeral Home, Inc., 119 West Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, where family and friends may view 2 hours before. Burial will follow in Sharon Hills Memorial Park.
