Iris Hazzard Obituary

Iris E.  Hazzard was born August 22, 1950 to the late Rev. Lewis R and Rebecca Jones and she departed this life on April 26, 2021.

Family was important to Iris as she loved spending time with her grandkids, and she loved to tease and give all her nieces and nephews nicknames.  Iris loved to dance, sing, and portray different characters.  Her favorite character was Miss Portini, because it was unknown how Miss Portini would appear.  She possibly could be dressed in high heels, felt hats, a robe, carrying a hymn book or singing a song she composed.

Iris taught herself how to play the clarinet, piano, and organ and she had a very, beautiful, high alto voice.  She sang in the John Wesley Youth Choir and she sang gospel with her sisters Mary, Ginny, Carolyn, Janice, and her brother Jimmy, who played the piano for them.  Likewise, she also sang and played in the Siloam #2 choir.

Another one of her passions was a large collection of dolls that she named and dressed up and nobody was permitted move them.

While pursuing her education, Iris was a very studious person, whereby her assignments were completed ahead of schedule, and she was avid reader.   Her education consisted of Cooper Mill Elementary, Salisbury High School, and Delaware State College.  She was a graduate of the first integrated class of Milton High School in 1968.

Iris was employed at King Cole and Thrift Way until her retirement.

She is preceded in death by her parents, son William Penn, daughter Lisa Renee, brothers Robert Bacon, Jerry Jones, James Jones, and Louis Jones.

She is survived by her long-time companion Myron West, Daughters Michelle Hazzard Clark (Elmer); Tamara Bryant (Cedric), Ambia Jones (Eric); Ebony Cephas (Otis); Sons Leon Hazzard (Loraine) Emory Woodbury (Yolanda); Grandchildren Shante Hazzard, Charlisa Hazzard, Chase Hazzard, William Hazzard, Lavont, and LaVonte Hazzard, Dazhawn and Ommeni Richardson, Latrell Lewis,  Raiquan and Tamijah Deshields, Latrell, Tyrell and Andrel Fulton, Donta Banks, Amoni White; Sisters Mary Winder, Virginia Burton; and Brother John Jones; Sister-in-laws Lucille Bacon, Caroline Jones; an Aunt Geraldine Bacon and a host a nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
